Sometimes the drugs do work...
Magwitch - My name is Mags and I am funky. Started conversation Mar 5, 2015
Some of you know this already and some of you don't, but quite frankly the end of the year and so far into this one has been a horrible, torrid time.
Hubby, who has MS, suffered a slight relapse at the beginning of December and lost his sense of taste and became a bit less mobile than usual, meaning that he couldn't drive anywhere. He could still (after a fashion) potter about in the house. I had to walk behind him when he was going up the stairs and in front of him when he was coming down. I really didn't about what would happen to me or him if he fell backwards or forwards down the stairs. He's a big bloke 6'2" (built like an outhouse, sorry babe) - I'm 4'11" and eight and half stone dripping wet.
On Christmas Eve (great timing you stupid disease) hubby was walking upstairs as normal and dropped to the floor, we managed (after two hours) to get him into bed by crawling and pulling him along on towels.
He's been in that bed ever since. His legs aren't working. They move, oh boy do they move, but sadly he can't control the movement. He's not dead from the waist down, because he still feels the pain, even in his feet
He lost his hearing about 7 weeks ago. That's fun. It really makes you realise how the written word can be misinterpreted, I tried to use smilies and laugh when I thought he'd got to right bit, but his eyesight went wonky as well, which made it harder.
He was so isolated, no sounds (none of his beloved music ), couldn't see properly, hands all shot to frell, so he couldn't write or play the video games we brought up. Either myself, or my son were with him almost constantly. And the poor buggar started to make absolutely no sense at all...
He went to hospital two weeks ago, came home with antibiotics. Chest infection, apparently.
Now, I'm not saying that amoxicillin can cure all ills, but...since he's been back at home and taking the medicine (as well as the other shit he takes), his hearing has started to return, ('He won't sell much ice-cream going at that speed" - Morcambe and Wise ) His sense of smell returned yesterday and with it his taste. For the first time in a long time we had laughter.
It's been a rare old tine and missing him almost broke my life, but he's slowly, slowly coming back to me.
Why am I telling you all this, you might ask?
Because I can.
And also by way of apology to all the people who have taken part in Create since November (hey, remember Najo? ) I have been totally remiss in my duties and not yet sent y'all the code for your badges. I hope you understand and I'll kick meself up the bum and make sure I sort them very, very soon.
Feel free to also kick me up the bum as well if I've missed you.
Mags, Create, whatever else I do...

Holy........ but; : great news its looking up!, just a pity that had to come after quite such a looking down... BoB-knows how the heck you and he coped with athat.... makes one feel truely greatful for the health we have... - maybe the infection had gone to the ears too; affecting balance, then of course hearing?: trying to walk, when even you know you can* and physically all the bits are working as should... is.... trust me... not fun if something just as 'small' as not being able to quite 'grab' the balance of up and down... is quite impossible
t tings can, and will only get better... sounds like he's well on the way to recovery as far, of course as one is able, to do, with something like MS... <

Not really got enough words Mags - your husband is so lucky to have you. (And you know how I feel about your local MS multidisciplinary team)
I've been in that position, where eyes, fingers, legs and brain in general don't work and it's frightening, wondering if you'll ever get back to 'normal'. But I'm much luckier, being ages older and less afflicted. So I wish your husband a steady recovery, it won't be easy and it won't be speedy, but I'm hoping to hear of little signs that movement and senses are returning as his body heals itself.
Look after yourself too Mags, you are one of life's true Angels - caring and working for others here in h2g2 as well as all you do for your family. You're truly a valued human being.

I think you know how I feel.
I'm so glad things are finally going in the right direction.
And just a word to all you Post readers out there: Mags has been AMAZING all through this.

Great news, we are all pulling for him ---those senses cutting out on one sounds scary and awfully frustrating. I am glad he is recovering at home now. So much nicer than hospital. We'll be thinking of both of you.

Glad to hear things are starting to look up after what must have been a really nasty few months. Here's wishing for continued recovery and a much brighter Spring.
All the best

I had an *Escape Plan*.
He was coming Home.
Next Week.
Then his frelling legs started to work
Not .
But 'why didn't you try this earlier?' (Negative Physio-man)
He could be home now if they'd used the right equipment and listened to the patient and his family.
Gah!!!
Fedup,

Ok.
Something really, really will be happening shortly. By shortly I mean, 7-10 days.
I'll be able to use FWR's pic he kindly sent me, (might do it on a cake as well and write it up for this month's Create). The cogs have been oiled, and finally, finally (after over six frelling months) equipment will be delivered to our home and we can, at last, be proper family again.
There will be other things that need doing once he's home and we should be getting a date for those later this week.
We've also got ideas for a series of short stories, so y'all might to keep an the just in case...
My Beautiful Man is coming home soon.
I can hardly wait.
