I had my hair cut the normal way, short back and sides, a bit longer on top and the just spiked the middle bit up. I have no idea what the proper term is 
Quick search on wiki tells me that yes it is a fauxhawk. All these technical terms!

Seems what used to be just a hairstyle and one person's take on it (or rather their attempt at it that didn't quite work!) now deserves it's own name and categorisation within a youth tribal group.

Mine's still a bit long for spiky all over, or at least I think so.
The hair-gel that I use is a cheapy one from morrisons and is advertised as holds like glue. It's looks and feels like a less sticky form of PVA glue
Ah wiki, dedicated to writing about absolutely everything no matter how pointless/useless
