MMF - Keeper of Mustelids, with added P.M.A., is now in a relationship. Posted Jul 29, 2004
Hi Ladies..... Neither of you have a reason to be and I'm happy to use any system, as long as I understand what system is being used.
Venus, if you prefer a different and/or easier system, try it, and I'll advise you if it works.... As long as I know what people are doing, I can work around it... and B'Elana, I shall post my vote by the end of the day, once the phones have died down. It is too manic at present. I haven't stopped since 08:30 and it is 14:15 now, so please bear with me....

Oh Dear, it seems that the Pre-Poet's bug has struck, and the s are out. It really doesn't matter, so no more s from anyone please?....pretty please?........pretty, pretty please?
Thank-you.
Now, how do we get people to vote?
Maybe when I post the results to each participant, I could include the voting link? It takes a little longer, but I'm happy to do it.

Now back off holiday, and surprised no-one has come up with ideas. .
Results will be posted during the week.

Hope you had a good break, MMF.
One thing you could do would be to post somewhere the number of times each player has voted...

Summing up:
# Not enough people are voting.
# Some people are posting words but not voting, therefore maybe getting points for themselves but not giving any away.
# Typing in the telegram sentences is a bore.
I like the idea of giving just the name of the person and the A or B option. We could easily type A or B in front of our entries.
Another method - but one open to the problems of simulpost - would be for players to number their entries. So if MMF is the first to play on the word TELEGRAM he has entry 1 and entry 2 (if he uses both of his chances).
If Vestboy goes next he has entry 3 and 4.
Then Icy North has 5 and 6 and so on.
The players would have to number their own entries and because each entry can be identified by the name of the player we could get round simulposts.
I also agree that it isn't fair for someone to get points if they haven't given any.
We decided on the new system so that the whole game does not rely entirely on one person and the general, democratic view can be given.
As ever I'm happy to stay as it is or change - whatever the people want!

D'oh! Why di I make it more difficult than it has to be!
We don't need to give numbers.
Every post is automatically given a number. So we only have to say:
123 A Gold
127 B Silver
119 A Bronze
to minimize the typing.

That could solve #3.
For #2 you might consider revising the way you award points. At the moment the score is the aggregate of votes cast. If you had a fixed scale of points, then it wouldn't matter how many people voted. Maybe you have already considered this?
I know it's not perfect - it would require rounding where people tie for votes, or alternatively you could differentiate tied entries by awarding the points to the Telegram which posted first, or whatever.
I've no idea how you solve #1, though. Do you need to?

Am happy to go along with suggestions for #2 & 3 but I feel that if you've taken the time to post an entry and other people are voting on it.........then it's only fair that you should vote too!
I appreciate that there may be times when this isn't possible due to holidays, illness or whatever but every effort should be made to cast a vote!
Maybe 'no vote' 'no points' or is that too harsh?

Last week I became confused which word I
was meant to vote for and got a
and did not vote at all!
Now I must play and vote because I forgot both!
Sorry

Thanks for the ideas, folks.
I am happy to go with whatever the majority wish for.
Anything which simplifies the process.
At present I am sending the results to each competitor, in the hope it will inspire people to play and vote.
The Roll of Honour is continuing, although the weekly game results will be restricted to 10 weeks of voting, purely in the interests of brevity, if that is agreeable. The results of the last two weeks will be posted on Saturday.
Many Thanks.

The idea of first posting getting the tiebreak mentioned further up the page has two problems-the telegrams may be very different, and what with time zones, and computer access time -my main problem until Uni, and networked rooms -people may only be able to post when they do, given that they may have to think up an idea.
Key: Complain about this post
