One huge leap into a different future!
JulesK Started conversation Oct 31, 2006
Jules gave up her job today as she has a shiny new one waiting for her!
It will mean buying a new house (and selling this one), learning the ropes in a role I'm qualified for but have never done and (don't tell Legster) living very close to Cambridge
A new place with much more going on for Jules and Spouse (where we live is a touch boring)
The new job is more hours but hey, it's not my current job
So on the whole, it's a nervous day, tummy-curdlingly scary but hopefully heading towards a good outcome!

Wow, thanks all for your support
Opti, you are right to spot the 'nearly' in my gutsiness!!
Legster, sorry, did I read that correctly, you are offering to pay for my lunch, yes? Would that be a liquid lunch?

Nothing in life was ever easy you just have to deal with what life throws at you and decide what you want to do in life and go for it. Take challenges, risks and be happy. Everything is an experience and from them you can learn great things. I'm going all philosophical

Eek - the house looks tidy. Had a couple of estate agent types round to value it and bid for our custom.
Don't actually want to lose my house now, I quite like it
Hopefully we'll find a nice new one (will be smaller as that area so expensive )

Went to see three houses today (seen seven so far now).
One was too small. Excellently turned out, great garden but a bit too much downsizing for us. Turns out we're spoilt.
Second one didn't have enough land and needed too much stuff doing to it.
Third one. Lovely. Even Spouse liked it. But on a noisy road
Argh.

I think being 'spoilt' is a common condition when it comes to one's accommodations! It's not easy to 'settle for less' in terms of roominess(or downsize). As the song says "you don't know what you've got 'til it's gone...", essentially. I certainly hope something suitable turns up before too long!

Me too.
It's got to be a combination of location, house and price. I know that's obvious but it does make you think about which of the three is the most important to you, when you're seeing them.
I mean, the first house yesterday was Spouse's favourite location but we didn't think it would feel big enough for us and we don't want to have to move again in the near future.
The second house is a non-starter even though it had some good bits. It wasn't us at all.
The third house we both loved (and Spouse only agreed to see it reluctantly so I was thrilled). We like the place it's in, just not the actual spot. Move it back from the bypass ()a couple of hundred yards and we'd be there like a shot.
Today I spent 2.5 hours looking at 70 pages of houses on the web. 70 To get a new shortlist for next weekend...

Well fortunately there Is the computer...much easier than going to visit each house in person! That could easily feel like the proverbial needle in a haystack scenario in fairly short order, I suppose.
Let's hope something comes up soon.

Flying visit from me:
The new job is fab
The commute is horrid - upwards of four hours a day
The days are therefore seriously long and at night I just eat, sleep and do it all again the next day.
Hence the first visit here in a month - hope everyone is OK, miss my Hootoo pals
Jules
