What I did in my holidays.

I'm back from a generally excruciating fortnight in Adelaide. Far too much happened to give a blow-by-blow account, so here's the headline items.
My sister's operation went well; the patient is now recovering at Mum's house. She has limited use of her left arm, but that will pass in time. The device has been fitted under the skin just below her left collarbone and wired into the heart muscles. In a great leap forward for medical science, her condition now has a name. Her heartbeat features a long QT interval - whatever that is - and for want of something better, it's now called 'Long QT Syndrome'. It seems that it is hereditary after all, in Dad's side of the family. Going back through the records, there have been three cases where relatives of mine have dropped dead below the age of 25, with no prior warning. These people probably had the same problem.
I saw the mad boy twice. He is making good progress, but he's not yet anything like normal. A lot better than he was, though, which is the main thing. He's on medication, and he has a top-notch psychiatrist... He hasn't done anything strange in the last few weeks, and he's now admitting to his problems in detail. That, I think, is the first step in recovery. He also said that hearing about my sister's troubles made him realise how lucky he is, and how it's changed his perspective on matters. So maybe it's all seving a purpose.
I spent most of my time around the house, or going grocery-shopping, but I did get an entire day off. I went with a friend to the Barossa Valley, and drank my way around several vineyards. It did me good to be back in real country again. One day of holiday out of the full fortnight - better than nothing...
Now, unfortunately, I have to go back to work... I don't want to do it, owing to lack of interest, but I see no alternative.

Busy boy . Sorry you have to go back to the office, but at least things are looking up for the others in your life.

Hey, it's Nyssabird! fancy meeting you here, how's it going?
Actually, i am here lurking Ivan's space, since I reckon he might be a good candidate for the "Bird's Eye" thread on my journal space...don't ask what you've done to deserve this dubious honour, just go & say hi to the rest of the but people Ivan!
And while I am in a bullying mood, sod it Nyssa, it's about time you said hi there too! i bet you didn't get my email, your address changes about as often as mine...but still got some sticky sweeties!

So, all's well that ends well! Glad to hear things went relatively smoothly. At least now you can get back to normal (normal?) without so many things looming.
Was quite envious to hear about your trip to the vineyards. I shall have to go to Jerez one of these days and for a sherry tour (hic).

Normal. Az, I think I know what that is. It might take a few days to return to normal but I hope once I get there I'll be able to stay there for a while. By all reports it's quite pleasant.
I'm on the last page of the backlog on my conversation list... I must get through it before bedtime...
Hi, Nyssa!
Terri, I'll be on your thread when I'm rather more awake than I am at the moment... Thanks for dropping by.
, anyone?
Ivan.

Oh what the heck. It's about 1.30pm here on a sunny Sunday afternoon. A little before lunch would not go amiss!

Hey Ivan, I've been wondering if you were back yet. Good to see you again - I've missed you round the place
That's good news about your family. I don't envy you having spent 2 weeks doing family stuff though. I hope you get to have a holiday for _you_ soon as well.
Don't know that much has happened on h2. A few of us managed to kick off the digi argument again by mistake (in the Ask convo), but I left as soon as the main protagonists turned up. Maybe I'm getting old but I can't handle the aggro. Or maybe I'm just finally getting smart .
Have fun settlin' back in to h2

hi kea,
I unsubscribed from that thread awhile ago because I am just too angry about it all to post in a non-angry manner. Perhaps I should go and check out the most recent developments?

*sips *
I've been on this evening, so I'd better stick to it or I'll be quite unwell tomorrow.
It's great, having 15 years' worth of stress taken away by a simple surgical procedure. The current stress appears in my new journal entry. I'm not sure if it's really a source of stress, of if the - all eight pints - is making me maudlin...
On the bright side, I was indulging in with my ex; I'm even more convinced that I was right to get tangled up with D, even if it didn't last...*sigh* Such good company, and what else matters?

Ivan,
I think it's great that you still have such a good relationship with your ex so that you can see that although it may not have worked in a 'relationship' there is still a valuable friendship there.
Now that it is mid-afternoon I am now sipping some white before I get around to making a late 'holiday' lunch. It's nice feeling everything relax and knowing there is absolutely nothing else I have to do today other than enjoy my day.

Hiya Ivan, it's great finding out things have sorted themselves out. Sorry about the work situation but at least you can buy pretty things with your wages

Well, this morning I have a semi-hangover. No pain or discomfort, just a strange sense of being not quite here. Very odd.
Anyway - yes, things are starting to improve. A few minor matters to deal with, but they will pass. Even the work situation is improving. And yes, I've been buying all sorts of shiny new things to play with. It's quite therapeutic.
Az - my ex is irreplaceable. D even minds my house when I'm away. I get all the advantages of a partnership without any of those pleasant but unnecessary complications that the modern world seems obsessed with.

azahar Posted Apr 8, 2004
Well, nothing like dear and trusted friends, be they ex's or otherwise. It sounds like a great thing with D.
Now it's my turn to be getting to bed late after perhaps a wee bit too much
Hasta maƱana!

Well, it's 1.30am here in Bordeaux country, so may i offer anyone a glas or 3 of ? At 2$ per liter, it's not half bad!
for dropping by my journal space Ivan & Nyssa, you too are welcome Az, i seem to remember we bumped into each other on the Madrid (RIP) thread?
*goes back to correct typo's caused by too much *
Exes; Yes. Very good to keep on good terms if possible, not always easy though

Terri.
