I haven't been here in months and haven't posted in years. I'm sad to see some of my friends from here have left, or not visited in a long time. Clearly I'm not one to talk. I've re-contacted some of you on Facebook where I spend a lot of time now. If any other friends reading this would like to friend me on Facebook, leave a note here and I'll let you know how to find me.

Gosh.
Hello! How's things?
I'm one of the three people on the planet who hasn't signed up for Facebook...

Heya, Ivan! Good to see you!
Facebook is very flexible, but can be overwhelming for some people. I do have far away several RL friends I'd like to be in touch with on FB, but who refuse to join, so you're far from alone.
I have gotten involved in and lost interest in several other communities since Hootoo, but Facebook has held my interest. I think cause it has helped me keep in touch with RL friends who are now far away from me. A couple months ago though, it occurred to me to search for JEllen there as I happened to have her real name, and there she was! Several of her friends are people I knew from here.
I'm not bad. I've gotten used to California after more than 5 years here. September has been hot, but no horrid wind yet. How are you?

I'm well and happy and all that, as well as doing a job that I don't hate. What more could I want? (Apart from large amounts of cash, that is.) Things here are generally good; there's been no recession here, winter's over at last and I have two short holidays planned in the next three months...
Maybe I'll go to Facebook one of these days, or maye not; I think I'm most concerned about using my RL name. I know I can restrict the visibility of my page or whatever the terminology is, but somehow it's still a concern for me.

Understandable. You do have a lot more control over your profile there and who sees what. OTOH, because of the anonymity here, I've posted a lot of stuff here that I'd never post to FB. I would prefer that RL friends NOT visit my PS here, and I was somewhat concerned about mixing my on-line only friends with RL friends at first, but it hasn't been an issue.
No recession in AU? That's nice. I thought it was everywhere.

We've been lucky down here, mostly because we had strong regulations on the banking sector. And that's the last I'll say of tedious economics tonight.
The thing about keeping RL and Online friends separate - yes, I do tend to do that, though not always deliberately. Certainly I don't want my RL friends - or my family - on this site. Next month I'll blur the lines a bit; I'm meeting Tartaronne in Melbourne and there will be a bit of overlap of the two worlds, so to speak, when we meet up with Tanzen (formerly of this site) and an ex-colleague of mine who's never been near the place. This will be strange.

That would be strange. I have more to say about this, but it's 02:39 here and I'm suddenly sleepy. I'll check in here again soon.

I am still around and read stuff but do not post much.
It all seems to be work work work around here these days there doesn't seem fun quizes and games and things. Perhaps they are well hidden.
I am another person Not On Facebook , I would not want my real name associated with my online name(s) , they are my escape from real life you see. Also you need friends to start with on Facebook type sites don't you which is where h2g2 wins.
There is a new HHGG book out in a few weeks so things will probably get a bit busier then. I know h2g2 is officially nothing to do with HHGG and is a site for people who want to play at doing homework for free but we may still get some interesting postings for a while.

No recession in Australia. Wow.
They kept that quiet didn't they. Why is this never mentioned on the news. It is all doom and gloom these days here. And why are interested parties not queueing up to go to Australia to learn lessons.

Probably something to do with the distance and the expense.

If I weren't so tied to here right now, I'd be all over moving there.
About mixing on-line and RL. The thing that motivated me to visit, was Facebook where I am friends with Snailrind and Terri & Yoda. Snailrind posted a series of photos of when she visited Terri for Terri's birthday. It made me miss Hootoo.
Also, I went to an atheist Meetup event on Sunday which was organized by a guy I know from the Atheist group on a completely unrelated knitting community. I did not know it was the same guy till he said I looked familiar and where did he know me from? We figured out it was Ravelry. I didn't recognise him as in his (r)avatar he's wearing a hat. I was pleased to find he is more normal in RL than he is on Rav.

I like the idea of an atheist gathering on a Sunday.
There was something else I was going to say, bt it escapes me. I put this down to tiredness. I just can't do late nights very well any more; I must be getting old... This strikes me as deeply unfair. I haven't finished mis-spending my youth yet, and here I am slipping into middle age.

Did you ever remember? No-one in my household remembers these days. We spend most of our time looking for lost items.

Nope. I haven't a clue what I was going to say, or do, or anything much else for that matter. I had a job interview today so the brain's more fried and crispy than usual; that doesn't help.
