that there are certain areas of Southampton which will almost without exception make me feel dreadful - I've spent so much time around them whilst feeling bad that almost without question, whenever I'm in these places, feeling bad seems the conventional thing to do, and so I just seem to slip into it rather naturally, somewhat like someone bilingual slipping into another language. The only problem is that slipping back is rather harder. Unfortunately, one place which conjours up residing thoughts of badness - and I think must have a bad effect on me - is the walk home to my flat, which is totally unavoidable.

I wonder how I'm going to get around this pretty little conundrum.

Purchase a flying carpet??

Is there a different route you could walk home? Itmight be a little longer, of course, but if it helped, it'd be worth it...

That's what I used to do coming home from college - get off at different stops, walk down a different road. Anything to alleviate the boredom.

Try and make it a good memory. Sounds a bit fanciful, but somehow try and make that walk associated with something good. Music, people, I don't know. Easier said than done, of course.

I'm still bidding for as much civil disobedience as you can cram into the next couple weeks

I read this and got deja vu...don't know where your flat is but I used to get really down walking back to Glen Eyre up that damn hill...especially because I was in the farthest block from the entrance...I used to literally feel myself walking slower and slower up the hill...that was my only aim for the 2nd yr - to get out of Glen Eyre Block M. I tried everything to shake it off, nosing in peoples gardens/windows, listening in on other peoples conversations, cycling, even getting the bus...the only thing that seemed to make any dent in my mood was listening to some music and even that fizzled out when my cd player died. It got a bit better once the sun started coming out again but it still felt like the steepest hill in the world.

L block, actually, room 2037..

I was room 20something or other too...second floor facing the little carpark (dispite requesting a ground floor room so that hubby could visit...girls on the ground floor)...two fire doors from the kitchen and three from the toilets.

I was delighted to hear they are planning on refurbishing KL&M in the next few yrs and extending them too...awful halls (but cheap and the rooms are relatively big compared to some in monte)...I have bad memories of the kitchen.

If you find an A-Z of southampton with lots of little biro crosses it's mine...I spent ages scouting out all the disabled parking spaces only for someone to nick the damn thing.

right.. you'd be on my floor but a little further around, then. Come to think of it, you can get into where your room is from my entrance.. . Those kitchens really are rather nasty. Someone set fire to M block a week or so ago (which really didn't do my flu any good, having to wait outside reception for an hour whilst they sorted it out)..

If I find it, I'll drop it in at the admin building.
