I've only got two weeks left here - we went on our first date last night (after being together almost a year...), of course we forgot that it was fricking valentines day so there was a two-hour wait everywhere we went, we eventually gave up and ate pizza before we went to the school play - matt coaches the ski team and I come to all the practices (free skiing! ) so I know all the kids, some of them were in the play, so that was fun, then we went and had desert at a posh restaurant which was still packed at 11pm!
I just realised that my social life consists of Matt, his brother, two guys named doug and a bunch of high school kids.
I went down to new orleans last week - the french quarter was fantasmagorical but the rest of it was dead scary - I had guys try to solicit me, the hostel was the biggest dump ever - cockroaches and nasty things like that , and it poured with rain for two of the three days I was there so all the musicians went and hid.
I don't want to go home, only two more weeks though and then I'm leaving on a jet plane.

I know whereof you speak my friend... you enjoy the rest of your time there though or I'll be cranky!

Hmmmmm. That doesn't sound nearly as sorry as the state of my social life.

Look at the bright side ... you'll finally be out of the USA, and that can't be all bad.

But I don't *wanna* be out of the USA!
I've been here about three and a half months, since the start of November.

You're kidding!?!! You actually *like* it here? It has to be the hormones making you crazy, girl.
Is there any way you can stay, or is the State Department kicking you out?

I'm sure there could be a way I could stay, but I have to go back to uni - I get back two days before school starts!
New Hampshire is great, it's pretty and rural and the people are nice and normal and don't make too much fun of my accent. If I were living somewhere in the south, or over on the west coast, I could well be saying something different!

Most Americans *seem* nice and normal until you find out about us being psycho killers or something. We like to be unpredictable.
New Hampshire is a place I've always wanted to visit. I was headed there when I got stuck in Niagara Falls instead. The weather was poopy at the time, so driving for another 12 hours in cold rain didn't seem like a good idea. But I will get there ... eventually!!!
Do you and Matt have any plans for the future? Having something to look forward to might ease the pain ... although, I realize it won't be easy. Love is a two-edged sword.

mmm...we drove in towards Boston today - a glimpse of why people hate America! The immense dirty mass of suburbia...ugh.
We have no idea about the future - he graduates in May and I graduate in October, but neither of us are going to have any money anytime soon.
Telephone relationships suck. You forget all about why you're head over heels madly in love with the person - your heart forgets but your head remembers. I'm not looking forward to it, but I guess it's just one of those things you have to do.

I'm not at all thrilled about urban America, Caf. The best parts of this country are the least populated. I'm glad you had the chance to see some of *that* while you were here.
I wouldn't give you a plug nickel to visit the larger cities in this country. May Bob have mercy on ER's soul during his trip to all the most sordid population centers of the USA.
For now, you can be thankful that you have someone to love ... as for the future ... I guess it all depends on how much you two want to be together. You've already proven that you could find a way. I know that isn't much comfort, but I stand in awe that you found the means to be here for three months. You're one hell of a determined young woman, Caf. If you and Matt wish to be together, I have a feeling the separation won't last for long.

I'll second that, Caf. Anyway, it's now his turn to come over, so don't worry about it. If he graduates in May, he can find a crappy job for 5 months, get some money together and come to you.
And as for a pathetic social state- I've been here since November, too, and I don't have any new friends. So there.
