Ok, so I've got a billion jobs, but I'm still going to need to get a loan to be able to afford to get from the airport to a house, let alone actually *doing* anything before work starts. So, what's a good reason I can give on my loan application?! I don't want to lie as such, just make it sound better than "I need the money to go overseas and see my boyfriend"! I thought something along the lines of 'cultural exchange'...
Ideas, anyone?!
On the news front: my ticket is all but booked (it's on hold for a few more days), the US visa laws are driving me up the wall, I got offered a job at McDonalds in Boston (I told them I'd think about it ), and I'm so busy with work I've forgotten all about the fact that I am enrolled at uni. Ah well, not much difference there anyway
I get to go kayaking this week as part of my course...and the next week...and possibly the week after
Only 90 days to go!

Uh... I'm afraid I can't help you with the loan stuff, but it sounds like you're up for some serious fun.

I wouldn't list it as "I need the money to go overseas and see my boyfriend", simply use "Overseas Holiday". Most places are happy to loan money for holidays provided you can show that you have the ability to repay it.

Hmmm. I wonder if you could just go ahead and accept a little crappy job like McDonalds -- which, of course, is beneath your ability ... and then find something much better once you've arrived in America?
Job hunting in person is always much more effective, especially with your built-in Aussie charm, Cafram.
Still, there's a lot to be said for having all your ducks in a row before undertaking such a major trip. I admire your gumption. Go for it! ... you'll never regret having tried!

I think I have the job situation sorted - contacts in the states have lined me up with a job at a camping store!!
I have decided that the visa laws are very evil, and are obviously designed to keep people out of the country

Oh well done, Your Maj.
The use of the "t" word has probably brought the FBI down on this thread like a ton of bricks and they've now decided to go over Caframs visa application with a fine tooth comb.
