cafram - in the states.

Today I started my search for a dehydrator to dehydrate my food for my hike in February. Went to Myer first, cos I know they have them...examined the boxes with a vexed look on my face while the lady ignored me and dealt with the other, more important (read: wealthier), customers - I turned up the voltage on the vexed and added a bit of a disgruntled sigh while she spoke to the couple about the iron, and adopted the teenage angst slouch while she talked to the lady about the toaster. When the man who was after a milkshake machine decided he needed more time I made eye contact, smiled brightly and asked for help...she was able to tell me nothing about the dehydrator, had none left in stock anyway, and couldn't even be bothered finding someone to help me.

smiley - grr

For all she knows I could be a heiress looking to spend a lot of money! *why* does she judge based on my age?! smiley - steam

Anyway.

Called K-Mart, they had one left in stock so we drove out there later tonight, only to find that it's the bargain basement version which heats from the top down (you what?! Heat *rises*, stoopid!) and only has one heat setting (so you grill the meat and fry the fruit smiley - erm).

The search continues.

And I'm sure she wasn't judging you by your age, just your appearance smiley - winkeye

Why didn't you go to outdoors-y type places? I'd've picked even Barbeques Galore or something rather than Myer or K-mart...

Myer is less than 100m from work, so it's convenient, and I can use dad's shareholder card smiley - smiley

Not at all!

Lemme go get a passport since I don't have one yet, save up enough money for the trip, buy some plane tickets and I should be there in.... oh... I'd say I should be able to do all that in about 10 years. smiley - ok

(it's saving up enough money for the trip that will take the most time of coursesmiley - winkeye)

uhh...maybe it's best to just forget it then...see, my hike's in february, so I really have to start dehydrating stuff last week, not in ten years time smiley - sadface

But thanks for the offer! smiley - ok

Maybe if you still planned on coming in ten years time we could work out something else smiley - winkeye

Oh, too bad... guess you'll have to keep searching for a dehydrator then... And I already had mine packed and ready to go, too! smiley - laugh

No, I don't actually expect to visit there in 10 years time... I really don't go much of anywhere, certainly not halfway around the world smiley - erm

But one never knows, does one?

Awww... it would be kinda neat to visit some of the places I've heard about for so long, especially since I *know* people in those places now. I just don't expect it to happen anytime soon, if at all.
