I like the Simpsons, but I would like to know what other people think of it, what's their favourite episode, etc. To get it started, I like the one where Homer accidentally skateboards into Springfield Gorge (although it's not my favourite). Now it's your turn....

Fluke Posted Jun 1, 1999
I can't remember what episode it was, but I like the bit at the beginning of one of the episodes where Homer does a spoof of the Flintstones.
"Simpson, Homer Simpson,
He's the greatest guy in history,
From the, town of Springfield,
He's about to hit a chestnut tree... D'OH!"

I want to know why BBC2 never show the Halloween episodes at Halloween?!?
I'm a Maggie fan so I guess that must make my favourite episode the one where Maggie goes to the creche. Mmmmmmm babies!

You mean the one where they rip off The Great Escape, to recover all of the pacifiers?
I'm not sure that the Halloween ones really *need* to be on at Halloween. Do they do that in America?
The Simpsons
SMURF Posted Jun 2, 1999
I have absolutley no idea what strange things happen in America. And yes that is the episode I'm talking about. I first saw it soon after my son started to sit up and he is so like Maggie it's uncanny!

So let me get this straight. Your son's a girl with spiky hair. He/she doesn't make any sounds except for sucking on a pacifier (or dummy as I call it), wears a babygrow and keeps tripping up.

One of my favourite episodes, that made me really laff, is the one with spinal tap in it, where Millhouse get's left in the Concert, but i can't remember the rest of the story, D'OH.

He's not a girl but he does have yellow spikey hair. He never really liked a dummy but sucks his thumb and so makes a similar kind of noise. He doesn't wear babygrows anymore but is prone to falling over a fair bit (he's just starting to walk) and he loves his teddy (re: the episode about Mr. Burns and Bobo). He also gets up to a lot of unseen mischief. So, yeah I'd say he had a fair bit in common with Maggie.
I should point out though that as he gets older he gets more like Bart. My partner is very Homer like and although I don't have the blue hair, I do growl like Marge. Therefore I conclude that we are Loughborough's very own Simpson family (in a round about, squint your eyes a little and think hard kind of way).
Boy you can tell I'm having a fun day at the office!

And you can really tell the lengths I'll go to to avoid revision. I like to model myself on Homer (everybody tells me I'm going to turn out like him, mmmmmm beeeer). One that I've recently seen is where the Health and Safety Inspectorate go to Springfield Power Plant and carry out a test of knowledge. Homer isn't present due to having to be in charge of looking after a bee. At one point, Mr Burns has to persuade the university to let Homer attend, and does so in the style of Goodfellas:
Mr Burns with a baseball bat: Nnnnng, nnnnnnng (weakly hitting one of the board)
Board member: Er, Mr Burns, what are you doing?
Mr Burns: Why, I'm giving you the beating of your life. Nnnng, nnnng. Smithers, take the body out back and bury it.
Well, it made me laugh.

My favourite (look I'm even starting to spell like an Englishman ): Deep Space Homer
That was the one where Homer flew on the Space Shuttle.
One of my favourite lines from this episode was by James Taylor: "We had a rather bad ant problem down at the vineyard, so I had Art Garfuncle (sp?) stop by with his air compressor. We made a complete vacuum outside the house and blew the ants out."

All I can say to that is "Hooray for the Uranium Rod."
That episode was funny, but a funnier one was when Bart won a radio competition and had to choose between money or an elephant. It ended up with the park ranger saying "Well Mrs Simpson, elephants are a lot like humans. Most are pleasant and well mannered, some are just jerks. Will you *stop* that Mr Simpson." Calssic.

The Stampy episode was funny, "now I'll unstick my arms using my face"
But I suggest seeing the Deep Space Homer one again.
"Hello, is this the president? ... If anyone knew where to get some Tang it'd be you. Shut up!"

"Stupid carbon rod, it's all just a popularity contest!"
Back to the Holloween issue....here in the States they have a national syndication schedule for the stations that show an episode every day (not all stations follow the schedule for some reason). I don't recall what happend this year, but last year the schedule included Halloween episodes every day the week of Halloween.
Then again, I am so lame that I have nearly every episode on tape, so I follow no schedule myself.
"No, you have the wrong number. This is.....9-1-2."

Isn't there an episode where they get abducted by aliens and they carry out tests on them and Marge gets impregnated?
The Simpsons
MadMunk?¿ Posted Jun 4, 1999
Another good episode is when they get 'invited' aboard an alien ship, but it takes 2 beams to lift Homer... HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH....ha .hehe.... Well, i found it funny anyway...

I think my favorite is the where Homer passes though a wall into a world of geometry. He tosses a cone shape and it tears open the fabric of space to dump him (as a 3D model) into our "real" world. He winds up at an erotic bakery!
I'm glad that something as subversive as the Simpsons is leaking out of the States into the rest of the world. It does provide a keen view of life here.
Also subversive and worth checking out is Michael Moore and "the Awful Truth". I hear it's on the BBC.

I believe you are referring to Treehouse of Horror 9, in the segment called "Starship Poopers." Maggie was conceived when one of the aliens (Kang or Kodos, but which I don't know) put the moves on Marge.

How do you choose from over 200 episodes? Treehouse of Horror 5 is one of my favorites because of the remake of "The Shining", entitled "The Shinning." The blood rushing out of the elevator (Burns: "That's odd, the blood usually gets off at the second floor"), Homer's love for TV ("Television - teacher, mother, secret lover"), Homer going crazy (Homer: "No TV and no beer make Homer...something, something." Marge: "Go crazy?" Homer:"Don't mind if I do!"), etc. etc. etc.
Not to mention Groundskeeper Willie taking an axe in the back three times during the episode.

I guess here in England it is easy to pick your favourite episode due to the BBC only having shown about 80 or so (repeats abound). I think the whole reason I started this conversation anyway was as a relief for all those people who wanted to share what they think are the funniest moments. For instance, the one where Homer, in a pschadellic (sp?) chilli induced state, finds himself on another plane of reality. He takes one step forward, the sun goes down. He steps back, the sun comes up. He repeats this several times, until the sun eventually hits the horizon and shatters. Homer thinks "Note to myself, do not do ANYTHING". Now people will look back and remember that episode and smile. It's all in the name of fun, after all.
