It's mind-numbing here. I have friends I can't contact. Hoping against hope that it's just because they are out of power and can't recharge cell phones.

One has popped up alive and well, having abandoned his cell phone in the office when he evacuated. One other has made contact as soon as her power was fixed. But about 20 others I don't know about...

And now we have pouring rain and cool southerly winds... just to make things a lot harder for rescuers and survivors

sweetheart, I wish I could take a burden off your shoulders, I can only wish that all your friends come through it safely and as many folk as possible as well of course.

Fb, in case you feel up to doing something practical*, a call has just gone out for people in North Canty to cook food and drop it in Rangiora at the racecourse. They're going to helicopter food into parts of Chch that are still cut off.

I heard it on Kim Hill. There's some info on facebook.


* and if you don't, that's completely fine. There will be plenty of people who weren't actually in the quake and who haven't been traumatised and who can do this work.

FB! Please let us know if you are still ok - with the news from Japan supposedly affecting you, it must be very worrying.

I understand the warnings for NZ have been downgraded Scorp. Old hoo too friend Moonraker is ok, well away from devastation.
