I dunno how many posts is too many... Someone mentioned one time that someone in charge told them there was a limit, but they couldn't remember what it was. Obviously, we have not reached it yet.

Go ahead, start as many threads as you like - but 3N has always been the main thread there, and will continue to be as long as we can still post there.

Very true.

We're all used to it taking a long time to load.

And of course now the challenge is to find out just what the limit really is on the length of a thread.

Which we should try to do as fast as possible becase, why not...

I think we are, it's just that we're really limited by the amount of time it takes it to load every time you try to post something, not to mention that the BBC's been having some real problems lately with all of hootoo being broken down several times a day.

You mean you haven't gotten any error messages? I've gotten all kinds - page not found, time outs, script loading errors, and the ever popular page unavailable but we are working on the problem.

I got 2 minutes yesterday where I couldnt get on here, and maybe 2 xml errors loading, and maybe 1 or 2 others... but I thought that was just browser problems.

Yeah, they've been having server problems, as usual. Gotten any of the official BBC error messages telling you that a particular page isn't available?

Oh! That's what you meant. I thought the whole BBC server was down so you couldn't get anything. Yeah I've gotten maybe 5 of those. They only last a few seconds, usually.

I've gotten several different kinds, including those.

None today, though - but then I wasn't on her much at all until this evening.

Just the usual. It's like this frequently - sometimes days at at time.

Clive the flying ostrich: Amateur Polymath | Chief Heretic.

Well the Beeb brought out h2g2 and the code it was written in to ostensibly monitor online communities and how they generate and function. Since then h2g2 has introduced what is now called the DNA platform which is I gather not only the style of coding but also the management of the community at large. see the www.bbc.co.uk/dna/hub for more: but basically the bbc has introcuded about 14 more communities onto it's servers based on the DNA model The Sense of Place site, Book of the Future, 360 etc and all of those plus h2g2 and even the Thingites are competing for server space and although these machines are phenomenally powerful the slowdown in recent days has been both noticable and painfully frequent ( or so I gather - I've been on holiday. smiley - cool)

does that help any?

Clive. smiley - smiley
