What would Barbara Cartland do at a moment like this?
Oh my god, I can't believe

Write a novel, probably. Do you think you have time?

She used to write about 3 a day didn't she?

Oompa Loompas on toast.
He's not been at work for the past couple of days and came back today. I was in the middle of writing an email to him, asking if he was still up for going for a drink at dinner when he sent me one. Said that he had a load of stuff to catch up on, so cancelled. He said that we could go out next week, but I don't think anythings going to happen. I was starting to get quite excited about it too
Doobidy, doo

What a prat.
I think you should be 'busy' next week, to be honest - this guy sounds like a waste of good carbon.

I'm not even mad at him. It's probably true that he's got a lot of work on and is busy. I'm just mad at myself for getting my hopes up about it.
Oh my god, I can't believe
Trin Tragula Posted Sep 22, 2005
Why should you be mad at yourself? Someone asks you out and you like the cut of his jib, you get excited and start thinking about possibilities, no matter how much you try to stop yourself ... anyone would.
Whereas, you ask someone out, cut it short, dilly dally, put up lame excuses - borderline invertebrate.
There are plenty more fish in the sea. So go and get one and beat him round the head with it (might want to get some pebbles off the beach too, so you can put them in his shoes). Then forget about him. The person who's going to get just as excited as you at the thought of going on a date will come along shortly

I'm exactly the same way. I get far too excited when there's the prospect of something developing, and then far more depressed than I should be when it turns out not to be what I thought it was going to...
In fact, that's largely been the pattern of my life since I stopped frequenting h2g2 on a regular basis...
I agree that it's probably a good idea to be 'busy' next time he asks you - to give you some semblance of control over the whole thing... if he's really interested, he'll come back.

Opinion(s):-
The pre-arangement to meet mates, fair enough _provided_ he told you when setting-up your date, so a "short date" would have taken the presure out of the night.
Why not have your date the day before, or after, but *not* on the same day, not the sharpest pencil in the office is he.
He could have at any point blow his mates out, they will *still* be his mates, and made you feel better about being there in the first place.
Not exactly a gent is he.
Busy at work, OK, but why not ask you out for a Sunday lunch in some nice pub?
He could just be unlucky, things all happening at once, (or a drip)... Give him until payday to set something up.

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
