Yesterday at 17.11 I was sitting in stationary traffic in the main road into Plymouth town centre from the suburb where I live. As I waited and chatted to my passenger and car plowed into the back of me at pace.
He hit so hard that despite having the hand brake on I collided into the vehicle in front so hard he almost hit the car in front of him.
I ended up spening two hours in various abulances and police cars whilst all the details were taken, and it looks like I have got whiplash. Didn't manage to sleep last night much, once the Ibuprofen wore off.
Also got back to find the Eds had banned Hoo but not Della over the DW fiasco.
Hmmmm....
I have to say that for the first time ever I dont think much at all of our TPTB, to say the least.

Cheers man.
I hope so, at the moment I am not sure how bad the old neck is. If is sit up straight in a "proper" posture it seems ok, but whenever I bend it or twist it it hurts like f*ck.
I am going doctors in a minute so hopefully they will give me something or some more advice.

Sorry to hear that you were lucky to just get away with whiplash.
I had a car crash on the M40 with my wife and our pet dog. On the 20th of October 2001
A guy in a Ford Ka answered his mobile in the fast lane and lost control on a damp serface. He went into a spin the crash barrier which bounced him into a 4X4 which span him more he hit crash barrier for a second time which span him to a spop to straddle the centre lane. I spotted it first as i was in the back of the car in my electric wheelchair and yelled 'BRAKE BRAKE BRAKE' the were other cars to left and right so no lane to get into...... well we hit the side of his car at say 30 mph BANG.
Well lucky for us an AA Patrol man had spotted the accident an put his roof lights on so we did not get rammed by other cars.
He then helped get both cars to the hard shoulder before the police and ambulance got there. I suffered a bad back and my wife got whip lash and the dog was fine just a bit shaken up like my wife and I.
We found out that the driver was just under the drink drive limit, it was his girlfriends car and he was not insured to drive it.
Well both my wife and I got compensation.

Hi Fb,
I hope you sue the dangerous idiot who ran into the back of you for all he/she's got!! I speak as a member of the Institute of Advanced Motorists! You may be surprised, reading that, at my attitude about such people, but they are a bloody menace on the public roads. Probably drugged up to the soddin' eyeballs, or on the mobile to their mate! And almost certainly driving over the speed limit!
Watch that neck, and if it doesn't improve within a week or so, go back to hospital to get it checked out, then contact your solicitor!
You should also watch out that the insurance company for the bloke in front of you doesn't try to get you on a 'knock for knock' basis, the person behind should pay for the lot!
Best of luck, mate!

G*ddamit, Ferrett - so sorry you've been injured and had a bad day all round, by the sounds of it.
Hope your neck eases up sooner rather than later. Make sure you take good care of yourself and if you're given a neck brace wear it!

Yes Fb,
Looks as though we're all telling you the same thing: SUE!
Also, make absolutely certain that the b*****d that ran into your boot-end pays for ALL the damage to both cars and all occupants!
Best of luck all round.
Oh! And yes, sue for any loss of earnings whilst you are unable to work!
I'm absolutely serious on all that stuff.

However was the car in nuteral or in gear? the handbrake is not that effective.
My accident
Lord Wolfden - Howl with Pride Posted May 20, 2005
No it does in excuse the shunter but it is a commen mistake to leave the car in gear with handbreak on in traffic or at traffic lights but the car in nutural might of helped. But glad FB is okay.

frontiersman Posted May 20, 2005
Sure, we're all glad he's OK.
If Fb's car was in gear and held on the clutch, even though the hand brake was applied, it would only weaken his case against the shunt into the car ahead of him, not the person behind, who is still the root cause of the accident.

Agreed lets to argue the point only the driver of the car FD was in would know that. I guess even in nutural the shunt would have had the same effect if the shunter was going fast.

If you get a neck brace you can dye your hair ginger or get a wig, actually thinking about it the wig is a much better idea and then get up to alsorts of Avid Merrion style fun.

I have got to be honest folks the exact details escape me, it is all a bit of a blur...
When I got back into my car after the ambulance had seen to me the handbrake was on so I assume it was when the accident happened, the traffic was still and we were clearly not going to be moving for a while.
Had a right palarver of recovering my car. The insurance people said I am not covered for any storage costs and said I had to go and get it. Being both "skint" and "in no fit state to drive" and "my car being f*cked" this seemed a little strange.
Then they said I couldn't claim back the £105 storage and recovery costs of the other driver!?!?!?!?!
"Why the f*ck not" I exclaimed, rather hacked off.
"errmmmm..... stammer stammer, mumble muble...."
After I kicked off they said as long as I recover the vehicle then I can claim the £105 back. Damn right too. I really dont need or want this. I am basically hoping for a cuppa and watching transformers all day and instead I have been on the phone and I had to drive my massivly damaged car across plymouth hurting my neck whenever I tried to look left or right.

frontiersman Posted May 20, 2005
Many years ago, about 40 I think, I was shunted from behind by a bloke during 'black ice' conditions. I was stationary at a set of lights with my hand brake firmly applied and the gear in neutral, but my wheels did not grip on the ice and I went into the rear end of an expensive car, even though I had more than the normal distance between it and me! I was held responsible by the insurers of the car in front, and claimed on the bloke behind. I felt that to be most unjust, and smarted about it for days!
