Well time for anothr match report.

On sunday we had Mainstone SSC, a pretty high flying team up near the top of the table on 40 pts who we have never got a result against. So a tough game was in the offering. However in our favour was that Mainstone were on a loosing run.

Things were not helped by the terribl injury suffered by Rik last week in our 0-0 draw with Devonport Dreams, damaged his knee ligaments and is out for the season and the summer. Also Jason Carr is away in America and thus we were missing our recent talisman.

Things got off to a terrible start as in the first min we gifted them a goal, defence thought it was offside (it wasn't) and just stoped. Chris tried to clear the ball but it hit Ian and their player had a tap in.

Things did not look good as the boys started bickering and we really didn't look like gtting back into the game. However with about 3 or 4 mins of the first half remaining Chris launched the ball up forward; Adam skillfully took it down, beat his man and lashed it in from 20 yards... 1-1.

Then with our next attack Richard Channing was brought down in the box and converted the penalty. 2-1 at half time for what seemed then to be an admitidly unlikely lead for Greenbank!

Th second half started shakily and after about 5 mins shock horror Mainstone equalised from a well worked short corner routine. However we are made of some pretty stern tuff these days and our resolve did not crumble, ten mins later John "The Boy" Tremblitt got his first ever goal for Greenbank 3-2.

After that it was one way traffic; Richard got his second of the game to make it 4-2 and could have had a hat-trick later on. This was definitely our best ever result. The local paper even saying that they though we would could "Threaten next year".

Our record since that Devonport debacle is w3 d5 l2; both the losses against teams in the top three so we are definitely moving in the right direction.

Well they do a weekly column, when you phone your result in if you give a colourfull description then sometimes they write about us div 3 clubs. Usually though it is just division one teams that get mentioned.
