Am I alone in my universe?
Hathornefer (ACE) Near miss - isnt that what you'd call a hit Started conversation Feb 9, 2003
I have been here a couple of days and encountered some really nice people - inviting many of them back to my place for a cup of tea and a slice of cake.... but are these people my friends or merely my aquaintences?
It is a fine line to draw even though the tide keeps washing it away. I think I need some hard and fast rules. Anyone who replies to this journal entry will be classed as a friend and added to my list of friends. I suspect that any other true friend will make themselves known over time.
My only dilemma is who do I trust enough to hold my while I am busy.

Hi Hath (again)
*takes official 'ACE hat' off, and finds comfy chair to sit in*
Is the kettle on for ?
i think we are all alone in our own universes but sometimes we overlap with other people. In h2g2 everybody is really friendly, but just like anywhere there are people that you will get on better with than others, and equally you never really know who anyone is.
( Have you had a look at <./>ThePost</.> yet? there is a Classifieds section where alot of groups and societies are listed and its a good place to mingle with folk. )
My advice would be keep your towel to yourself until you get to know people a bit better. Although I guess the <./>ACES</.> and Guardian Angels A467606 can be trusted to look after it for you. Personally one of my cats sits on it and he isnt giving it up for anybody!
I think its staying power that determines friends from acquaintences - ie who will visit you in 2 weeks time.
It looks as if you have written your intro in plain text. well if you start to use Guide ML then here is a tip.
When you add someone to your friends list, YOU can see it but they cant.Equally if someone adds you to THEIR friends list then they can see it but you cant. (unless you go to their page and check of course)
This code (when using guide ML in your intro) will show you who has added you to THEIR friends list.
At the bottom of the intro page you will see
Insert the code between the two words ie
bit confusing at first but if you use Guide ML it is a code worth remembering
When i first started using the guide text i was very confused but soon got the hang of it so dont be put off by it and you can do lots more stuff to your page once you get the hang of it ( think i got a bit carried away with mine )
I spent my first 2 months very lonely here because i didnt do anything and then i suddenly joined stuff and kept bumping into the same people over and over again and alot of them i class as acquaintences but i have met a few friends too
Well back to the 'duty'. Thanks for the and
Actually I might end up fiddling with my page again!
*sighs and puts 'ACE hat' back on whilst looking longingly back at the *
Did I warn you I talk alot?!
*waves*

Don;t go adding me to any lists just yet, but I thought I'd pop in and say hi, in case you get worried about having too much attention from someone who calls themselves Mort.
Only kidding. I don't like this nickname thing, I chose mine on the spur of the moment, not really having been active in any online things before, and I wonder how many people associate it with Batman.
How about a with the ?
I have a packet of 'red nose cakes', actually just cherry bakewells, but they make you feel more virtuous because about 5p goes to charity. So how about one of those as well?

Yum -- bakewell tarts -- goes well with a cup of tea. Thanks for popping by and I am glad for the chat! Would you prefer coffee or tea?
I think Mort and Catwoman are good names... the quickly thought of names tend to be the most revealling! My first thought was of a little old lady in a bungalow with 17 cats -- I guess a leather all in one and a mask seem quite a catchy alternative. My name on the other hand tells you absolutely next to nothing about me.
Hmm, scrummy cakes ... thank you.

You don't know me, I've not been around, but I was just on a wander around h2g2 (as I tend to do when not a lot is going on in my threads) so I thought I'd drop in.
My penny's worth- people here are nice. The few who aren't tend to stick out a bit. And anyone who goes to a meet up is generally going to be okay, and if not, you'll have a lot of people around you.

Thanks for the information MORT, very much appreciated.
I have been getting around a bit over the last day or so and the classifieds have been quite enlightenning. Having looked at lots of interesting home spaces I have started looking at GML, but am finding all the linking between pages of information is a real nightmare to work with. Do you know if anyone has put all the GML documentation together in one place so it is easier to use? I cant be the first to growl at this surely!
May I say, its nice having you here, and you DONT talk to much! The chairs are always comfy and the kettles always on... anytime your in the neighbourhood eh!
..... perhaps I should put that on a brick! "HATHS Space - The chairs are always comfy, and the kettles always on" has a sort of homely feel about it.
Fancy another cuppa?

Thanks VIP, now after running around like that do sit down for a cup of tea and a slice of cake .
I was hoping for something I could print out and read on the way to work - or refer to easily while setting up my guide. It appears that this is not the case . Never mind, i'll just do it slowly. Thanks for saving me for hunting for hours and hours though!

*drips in from wet sunday afternoon's rain*
I would rather have a or if you have any.
But would love a piece of !
So how have you found your first few days h2g2? I have come to the conclusion that you have to be a bit to survive here.
Well it's true in my case Not to mention smiley addiction
Next time I will to bring the

Mort, I cant find a good bottle of wine but I can provide you with glasses of wine till they are coming out your ears - which perhaps is not a good place to have them. Do you like red wine? I have to say I do! Not very often, but sometimes - the odd glass of wine isnt a bad thing so (well it ones not enough, and has to be odd doesnt it!)
I have had great fun looking around and feel quite settled. Writing in GML is going to have to wait as I dont have time to sit down and read the guide online - and its not suitably formatted for printing to read on the tube - so it will have to wait till Easter if I am not already cramming for exams.
Surfing has been great although I had an interesting H2G2 experience overnight I would like to get to the bottom of (see journal entry dated today 2003 02 10). I now feel I have to investigate my entire PC for malicous damage! (Cry)
When and only when that is over am I going to look at my smiley addiction, as right now I have bigger to fry. (Sorry to those in the fishpond at the bottom of the river)
I look forward to seeing what cake you bring with you next time - should be interesting - although if you cant be bothered to cooook (as sometimes I cant) I can assure you there will be plenty here to munch on.
Take care

The problem I have with your name is that I watch Stargate, in which Hathor was evil (and a parasitic alien).
What do you think your name means?

Hathornefer (ACE) Near miss - isnt that what you'd call a hit Posted Feb 12, 2003
Catwoman - please explain your problem with a parasitic alien. I think she was a woman that knows what she wants and how to get it? I mean would you object to having Dr Daniel Jackson as a devoted follower? hmmm.
As to what the name means my digging indicates that Hathor means House of Horus, and Nefer I believe is beauty. I could be wrong my interest is fairly superficial.
I put together a few facts about Hathor that has come to my attention over the last couple of years. I think I am going to put it in my journal for now - to remind me that I might want to consider doing a little more work on it to make it entryworthy.
Thanks for prompting me on this.

Hi there Hathornefer.
It seems you're settling in quite quickly - though I'm pretty hopeless at intuitive stuff, I sense quite a bit of energy and momentum in your writings. I'm sure you'll go far.
Best wishes,
P.

Hi there Potholer
Thanks for popping in and saying hello!
I think the intuative stuff comes with time -- or just being a little mad . I confess that I have had practice in another forum but can asure you that use of a little imagination can soon grow -- promise! ... but I can not understate the importance of being just a little mad!
Thank you for the complement that my writing has momentum and energy. I consider those good things, and something I didnt realise I had!
For you here is a freshly brewed cup of tea and a piece of specially baked cake . You have made my day!
Feel free to pop in if you want to practice the intuative stuff - or just want somewhere else to hang out. Having lurked around your space earlier I am sure that there is a lot to talk about.

I don't have a problem with parasitic aliens per se (and would love to have a certain other male from that group as my follower), but if someone is evil then their being a parasitic alien is definitely not something you would ask for, since it heightens their ability to do bad things.

Well its a good job I am shallower than that then , and perhas even better than that -- that I am not her.
Think of me as Hath, far friendlier sounding and definately not likely to have all men falling at my feet, or with an alien being in my stomach.
She never serves tea and cake

I sincerely hope there's another non-alien more local to me than you are (no offence). Although, come to think of it, my neighbours do tend to show non-human tendencies. (you know who you are)
Men falling at feet... Sounds good. Or evn just man falling at feet, if was the right man.

I'm sure you arer human, but if you're my LOCAL non-alien that suggests that everyone else closer to me than you are is an alien, and that worries me slightly.
GML? Nice, is a very good thing to learn.
