h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

Well, yesterday was my fifth h2g2 meet, third London meet and second Summer Party . It was brilliant, despite the rain. Once I start chatting, getting me to stop can be very hard, and I started chatting to Opti, Andy, PSG, MaW and Liz...

We had our picnic, talked to quite a few other people, especially Z Phantom, Mystic Mel, Whoami? and Dr Mo and then went to have a look at the new fountain thing. It looked dull from a distance, but it was really clever up close . There were some kiddies swimming in the thing, despite it being cold and wet .

By the time we got back to the bandstand, the others had gone. We found them a little while later in a pub, and then we went on to another pub for and more chat. Liz then had to leave, and we moved on to the Penderals Oak.

The place was empty this year. Quite a lot of people had signed up for the meet but not all that many turned up, and several had been forced to drop out at the last minute. Of all the italics and former italics, I only saw Mina. Meetbadger was there though, handcuffed to 2legs for quite a lot of the time

Unlike previous times the music was turned down low, and it was actually possible to talk to people without shouting . Along with the space, it did mean I got to talk to quite a few of the people there, and Bel came over to chat to Opti and me. Then it was time for the quiz.

My team (team ? as we were called as we'd written the teamname in the wrong place ) consisted of Opti, Andy, PSG, Mystic Mel, Z Phantom, MaW, Dr Mo and myself (obviously). We were absoloutly useless . We gave up after a while, and tried to be creative rather than accurate. I was slightly dissapointed when my 'Badger of Arabia' answer was actually very close to being correct, apart from the whole badger thing... Needless to say, we came last, with an impressive score of 13/42. However, there are no more h2g2 t-shirts , so we weren't really trying. There were mousemats for the winners, but Master B gave everyone else one who wanted one, which made those on the team who didn't already have one happy.

The meet had a few other oddities, such as the two headed teddy on a shelf in the pub . Mystic Mel's pierced eared , as a replacement for the lost forever meetsheep , provided us with quite a bit of entertainment as we took photos of it supposingly eating and drinking...

... well, it kept us amused anyway .

Due to the lack of people, we were forced out of the hired basement early. This turned out not to be too much of a problem as there was more upstairs . MaW, Mystic Mel and Z Phantom had left by that point, so Opti, Andy, PSG and I continued on chatting. Then Bel had to go, soon followed by Opti and Andy, so PSG and I ended up seperated from everyone else. We continued chatting but it was getting late, so PSG took me back to Euston, and then I got a coach home.

And that was the 2004 Summer Party

Sounds fun. Stupid Atlantic ocean! Stupid me being only 13!

You'll get older . The Atlantic's not going to change much in the near future though..

Well now the imaginary is gone the thread might make slightly more sense

Well, I'm in this thread too, and making sense isn't something I'm good at . It might just be less confusing with an elf shortage. Well, possibly anyway.

Maybe. Personally, I should have known to tell Coren to go see Garrett in the first place. I knew he'd agree, he was too sleepy not to.

Somehow I think we'll miss Coren's powers of translation soon enough. Merp.

That's where the h2g2 rule of having to have an English translation will be useful
