I spent around £13 on a two- disc DVD purely to watch about a second and- a- half of footage. Worth it though smiley - winkeye

It's not the second and a half that is so important but what is on the rest of the DVD. If everyone in the world knows whats on the rest of the DVD then "so what" but if there is something special about that second and a half that few others know about then its all worthwhile.

So it seems it is worthwhile to you thats all that counts

Mad? Mad!?

Why not, this reality sucks and whenever I can get off this rock and go out of my mind I do. It relieves the tension and allows my mind to air out. (Mold you see)

So EE how is it that you can maintains such a calm exterior? Why should I think that you are not just as mad as us. Along with DNA himself for coming up with such an insane world as hootoo??????

Oh, I'm completely bonkers too. I'm studying physics for the fun of it. [I feel that's somehow proof of my insanity]
I was calling no1 dearest mad as a badger affectionately, simply because..Well, he spent £13 to see me for 2 seconds smiley - blushsmiley - hug

A good mind should always get the occasional airing. I moved out a while back because of the odd fish smell, which the cleaners still have't gotten to the bottom of.

'For the fun of it' seems the best way to study something to me smiley - biggrin
A good 2 seconds then? smiley - smiley

Mine deicded to take the day off. All day spent working and all it managed to do was get the captions wrong on three figures on a report smiley - doh

I've been studying history "for the fun of it" , unlike physics which is a glamour subject.

For me it seems to come alive and speaks to my current condition. So I pursue it for the love. Does that make me sick???? Mad??? or just dull!?

Glad I left something to keep you amused while I sneaked off up to Leicester smiley - smiley

smiley - cuddle Mad as a box of frogs, I am, but would you, or indeed I, want it any other way?

And Unc, yes, a good two seconds smiley - smiley It's not often you see a good friend of yours being screamed at by Boy George. And of course, it's always good to know a star (by 'star', I mean someone who's viewable on an internationally available DVD release!)

And EE, again, as for the physics- if you need, want or would like any help, advice or explanations for anything, just let me know. As with the maths, it'll be good revision, and I'm more interested in physics anyway.

And dim26trav- are you saying physics or history is a glamour subject? It looks like you're saying physics is, and I can assure you that EE is not studying it just because it looks good... smiley - smiley

Oh we all know that Physics is the glam subject now.

History has been around for so long that there is no real jobs anymore in that field except professorships and who wants soemthing like that. (I dont)

Phd's in physics lead multi-million dollar projects and publish books that are actually read (maybe not understood but at least read).

History books are published but not read, (dont we all know history already). Well maybe, at least not presidents, who do the same thing with Iraq that has been done before and fail again (surprise!)

How many well known historians do you know? I can name over half a dozen noted physcists! More if I include historical ones.

So basically you're saying that the only jobs in history are highly paid ones, whereas the only jobs in physics are highly paid ones?

Physics is not just a 'glamour' subject. 'knowing' historians and physicists just depends on what you're interested in. I have a number of friends who could reel off the names of 20 or 30 historians, but would be hard pressed to think of one physicist, purely because they have an interest base in history but not physics.

You can't just down-play a subject without which most of the items you take for granted in your every day life just simply wouldn't exist. It's somewhat insulting to be told that one of the subjects you've spent your whole academic life so far studying is nothing but a 'glamour' subject. There is real work done in this field.

My old history teacher is a published author... great bloke too, bad as badgers...

Thanks for the offer of help, I'm sure it'll be taken up sometime. Stuff I'm doing at the moment is quite simple, the only thing making my brain hurt is working out the units, but that's only because I haven't done maths in so long!

There's real work done in all fiedls. But at the moment, physics is probably moving faster than any of the other sciences. But physics is the BASE of all the other sciences.. Finding out about our pasts can help us prepare for the future but we make the same mistakes over and over and over again. We're a stupid race.

I'm glad the 2 seconds was worth it. Shame it got edited down, because it should have been a fair bit longer. Actually, it's not a shame, it's embarrasing! smiley - winkeyesmiley - run

Sir Temporal Bandit you are right of course those who live and work in a field will know more of the experts. Here in the colonies the typical university budget for physics is ten times (or more)what the history department gets. It is easier to get professorships in physics than history, and while we do have the old publish or perish policy here, the obscure history journals gain their dust in the stacks. When I was at university the reference books I used hadn't been checked out in decades.

It's just tragic more time (and money) isn't spent trying to build a time machine then history could be really accurate. Of course then history could be an active field not just dust filled dtacks.

Working out units is the easy bit...

And maths is the base of physics smiley - winkeye
A very stupid race. I've made the same mistakes numerous times. Such a fool.

No no no, it is a shame! It's the clearest image I've ever seen of you! Should be more like it!

History is full of incomplete information not allowing us to know what truly happened.

We might theorize about physics issues and mere guess work while it may just be guesswork, as long as it is the guess work of those glamorous physics people, can be the most sterling of facts until some other guess work comes along from another notable glamorous physics person.

Whereas history's theories cant even see the light of day until they have been peer reviewed and gone over by 15 other knownothings who claim to know better.

That is that and there is not one thing to add to it. (except of course 15 other novel length explanattions by why it cant be true)

No one, not even a notable phycisist, can publish a theory without any kind of proof or evidence as to the validity of the claim. You can't just say 'I think that...' and leave it at that. You seem to be rubbishing a profession which you know little or nothing about. I don't know what you have against physicists (maybe you were bitten by one as a child, I don't know), but it's hardly fair to downplay the importance of an entire wing of science, evidently without attempting to find support evidence for your /own/ claims.

First anything I say about Physicists is not even as big as a flea bite, strictly amaturish tripe not to be paid attention to.

Lets talk about something else, I surrender, not interested in argueing any more about something so unimportant. Neither point of view counts even in my own galaxy
