Hi F, We have just got back from our trip uo North to help out our old friends, so I have a rake to catch up on
We will have to go back up again this coming weekend as they are in such a mess, being disabled the same as us, but they are not coping as well
It was nice to see the old home town again, even though it has changed out of recognition, I would never go back there to live howeverm as I have always made a point of Never going Back

Hi Smudger. How wonderful that you were able to help your friends! No, you can't go back again. Even staying in the same place, if it is a big place, can be strange. If you don't keep up with the changes, there is sure to come a day when you get lost in a city you have known for many years. I have moved to a different country more than 40 years ago and I knew there was no going back. One has to make a home of wherever one is and these days you have the world on a screen in front of you, that helps! Even when you don't make friends for whatever reasons, at least now you can communicate instantly and not have to wait for days and days to get an answer to a letter. I think it is wonderful that there are always people "out there" one can talk to, like we are doing right now. Sooo much nicer than TV.

Hi F, Yea its great to be on-line, it has changed my world completely
I think that the writing has also helped me, even though I am running out of stroies? I suppose I could try my hand at non fiction.
The next move we make will bo our last for sure, we thought this one was, but with neighbours like we have, along with the fact that we have folk living above us, makes our lives miserable
Still i can always escape reality here in cyber world

Yeah, it's a shame how people don't respect each other any more. My sister complains about the same thing in Germany. Sometimes I say I am not of this world any more, I am of another world and that seems to be true for most older people. I wonder where that will take the world and how will it all be in another 50 or 100 years. Or people go back to behaving so they can live together or they will be killing each other off for all kinds of stupid reasons. F

Hi F, Sorry for the delay in my reply, but we have been up north for the past few days, helping out some old friends
Whole story is on one of the other threads
While we were there, we heard a story of a youngster who was killed on his bike. They were playinf "chicken" with passing cars, by running out if front of the cars, and seeing who got the closest on their bikes
Well, he lost? Its a shame as well for the car driver, coz he was proscuted! for dangerous driving, despite all the statements from the witnesses who saw the whole thing
Just another fact, in this modern world
BTW, I read in the paper recently, that the Politicall Correct (P/C)brigade have been at it again? They have got the word "failed" taken out of the English language and the dictionary, as it, wait for it.......makes any child who fails feel left out

Yes, the world has become crazy! I just read your piece about your Dad, Smudger, and I think it is very good. You do manage to create a window into whatever you are writing about, one can picture it all. Also the piece about having to jump onto a slimy step. Whenever I have a moment I read another piece of yours. There are so many of them, so I am not nearly through yet.

Hi F, Thanks a lot for your support and comments. There is around 75 stories now! it used to be one a week for but not its every fortninght, in fact I better get writing as I see they have used the very last one for this edition
I often feel bad about my father, as we never really got to know each other, work was always in the way First his, then mine.
I must admit that I am not spending so much time writing these days as I used to, I think its because the weather is so good that I spend more time outside in the garden. Also I am running out of stories form my past life, well interesting ones I mean
There are plenty more, but they are not really fit for telling
Catch you later

Hi, I saw your piece on the front page of the Post. I did not even know there WAS a Post! Congratulations, it is a good subject and reminds me of people who live in out of the way places facing extreme temperatures and consequently completely different styles of life. And what you get used to as a kid, seems to last for the rest of your life. Here it is around 24°C these days and I wish it would get cooler still, while the natives all feel cold, honestly!

We had a large heating bill as well last winter as Mk2 needs to have it on all the time as her blood is thin. She has to take Warfarin to keep it that way after she took two blood clots in her leags
Thats why I like having to go outside for a smoke

It seems when Brazilians are born in the heat (because there are places where it freezes and even snows) they feel cold when temperatures drop below 30°C which is normal for most places. When it rains a little they put on jackets and never wet their heads, while I love to walk in the rain and have to listen to Brazilians telling me I'll catch my death. I have come to the conclusion, that the climate you are born in is what you seem to feel good in for the rest of your life, though there are exceptions.
You see, Paul kids here grow up wearing shorts and nothing else. They go without shoes, shower three times a day. Windows are always open so a breeze can blow through. When it rains they want to stay in bed the whole day.
A neighbour's daughter came back from the States because she could not stand the climate any more. She said she was sick of never being able to leave the flat (too cold) and everything was damp in the flat and she got allergic to that. I asked her if they ever ventilated the place, letting the air and sun come in whenever possible and she said, no, it was far too cold for opening the windows. Well, different countries, different habbits.

Oh, Smudger, you know what I miss most? A lovely walk in the cold, snow even, getting really frozen through and then come back into the warm living room and heat your cheeks and feel sooo good and refreshed. Also the green of trees and grass and ducks on a lake... better stop here or...
