my map is coming on well, if a little tatty now. continued my obsession with hill-climbing with a lane in Broadbottom called Gorsey Brow, no gradient marker on the map but damn near vertical! must be a 1:5- into 1st gear and grunt!

A steep enough hill that they put a handrail on it smiley - smiley
Are you looking for short and steep or very long and a bit less steep hills to climb?

As you're from near Manchester (ah, Dukinfield, what a lovely place...) you may be interested to hear that some other researchers in the area are going to meet up on Saturday (7th) afternoon and evening at the Trafford Centre for some shopping, smiley - ale, bowling, smiley - ale, quiz, smiley - ale and general merriment and socialising. The details can be found at A867396 This is a meet of The Flat Cap & Muffler Sports and Social Club (affiliated) - A732458 - a loose grouping of northern researchers.

Both!!! I've done the Snake (Glossop to Derwent), Holme Moss (both directions), Monks road (both directions). A friend of mine lives in a village called Honley near Huddersfield which is basically at the bottom of a hole! Huge hill to climb to escape!
You're the first person to read my journal - Cheers!

I'm the first to post to a journal. I'm sure many other lurkers have read them smiley - winkeye
I'm also sure that the many hill climbs I could suggest you've done already but here goes - Mam Tor, to/from Edale; Winnats Pass to/from Castleton; The climb to the Grouse out of Glossop; To the Grouse from Broadbottom (via charlesworth). There are a few off the top of my head smiley - smiley

Been up to the Grouse (forgot that one) I read about Wynnats Pass the other month in a bike mag. Have you done it?

I've not ridden up or down that pass (seems far too much like hard work smiley - winkeye) but I have walked and driven it in both directions. Very spectacular.

Is it steep? I'm not much for beer and skittles but how about some kind of bike ride? I suppose we could end up at a pub!! How about a Flat Cap Bike Ride? Did anyone do the manchester- Blackpool or Manchester 100 this year? What about the "Phil & Friends" ride? An "H2G2 ride" is long overdo I think!!!

I'll let you suggest a bike ride to someone smiley - yikes

Steep - it's got double arrows on the map and the main section is about 150m up (or down) in about 1Km from checking contours.
