Rains - Wondering where time's going and why it's in so much of a hurry! Started conversation May 11, 2006
Well, this time next week, me and Dave will (hopefully) be on a plane flying to Canada for our two week holiday around the Rockies . It feels like so long since we last had a proper holiday, and work has been a pain, and especially having Chris in our house, that we're really looking forward to it.
I have approximately (as of this moment in time) 25 working hours left (4 days) before I go on holiday - and a lot of majorly important testing is supposed to happen while I'm away, and right now it's all falling apart and going to rat-poo. You know when something goes wrong, and then it all cascades from there, and pretty soon you're wondering why on Earth you bothered even trying as it feels like the whole universe is against you? That's how it feels right now. And I can't see how on earth I'm going to be able to recover all this in the time I have left at work.
On top of all that, Dave's work is going similarly wrong and it looks like they want him to work this weekend, which we were going to spend visiting my parents.
And I'm going to have to have some serious words with Chris regarding him keeping the house in a reasonably clean state while we're away, else I'm going to come back from Canada and kill him. Things like putting the dried washing up away, wiping the surfaces down if you get them dirty, and emptying the washing machine when it's finished a cycle all sound minor things, but after a while they add up into a big mess. (Besides, he piles things up on the drainer such that they're in a really precarious pile, and as a result of trying to find some mugs under the mess once I dislodged and accidentally smashed one of our dining plates!)
I've really struggled with having Chris in the house - I like my home to be my sanctuary, and I lost that feeling when he moved in. And given the fact that apart from some washing-up (although he never does things like the pans or baking trays ), one bit of hoovering or gardening he's done naff-all in the way of chores, I feel a bit like I've been unpaid cleaner, too .
Fortunately, though, we're off to Canada on our own - a real holiday from everything here which is good, as I'm sick of everything! I just hope I don't come back and instantly wind back up to this level again.
Oh well, not long to go...

Thanks - I'm sure I will. The time until we go seems to be stretching out into infinity, though - two more days at work seems to feel like a lifetime!
You take care in the meantime and hope the end of your first year at uni goes OK

Linsey - I feel the need to hi-jack your thread and add my own work related aargh to it. I wish I was going to Canada this week too - I've got another three weeks to go to my trip and my work life will have turned to poo in the meantime.
This afternoon I had a conversation with the Director of Admin, which confirmed my suspicions about forthcoming changes. My department, and therefore my job, will disappear completely as of 1 June, which is a little sooner than I had expected. I sort of half work for another department too and their administrator has handed in her notice, so this afternoon I was officially offered her job. Thing is, no one else knows any of the stuff I was told this arvo so I can't discuss it with anyone. I don't want the job I've just been offered, but the two possible alternatives are even worse. I don't want to work here at all .
If only I had the possibility of VR. I hope you get the result you want from yours Lins.
To add insult to injury, I shall have less than a week to get used to the new situation before I go on holiday. I'm seriously thinking that I may not come back...
Have a fab holiday, Linsey. I hope you return to the news you want on your VR and that while you are away aliens will land and evapourate my place of employment!
Love and a wet kipper
Liz

Rains! I think you will love Canada - admittedly, I didn't go to the same place you're going to, but it's a great country!

I'll make sure I post a report here as soon as I get a chance . You'll have to tell me about where you went when I get back!
Oh, Liz, that's awful news . What a pain! We can only hope that the aliens will come and evaporate the place while we're away. Have they not offered you any form of redundancy package? Hope you can decide what you want to do, and whether you want to go back after your holiday .
Still no news about my VR . The latest through the grapevine is that this time they struggled to get the required number of applicants, so it looks like my application is likely to get approved. But without hearing anything, I'm trying not to get my hopes up!
Mind you, I'm beginning to wish I worked at Ryton to Peugeot, as the package they're offering is extremely generous compared to what was offered here . Hey ho - money isn't everything.
Hope things can be resolved, and that you can sort things out before you go to Canada. Hopefully we'll have a chance to catch up when I get back and before you go .
