Not too many, though.

Are you going on your date?
Cor blimey, would you Adam and Eve it!
Mort - a middle aged Girl Interrupted Posted Sep 15, 2005
And only Mina asked if I was actually going on the date!!
And of course the answer is...
NO!!! - but it is nice to be asked for the first time in more than 5 years.

You know, the possibility that you'd say no never occurred to me at all. I think that says more about me and my dislike of my current prolonged and possibly permanent singleness than anything else...

I thought it was because of *MY* "current prolonged and possibly permanent singleness" that everyone assumed I would accept the offer! (especially after my last journal entry! )
Ok - here are the details now I have gotten over the shock!! (I even phoned my mum to say I had just been asked out on a date - that is how shocked I was!, and we dont talk about these things at all, ever!!)
It is the assistant manager of the newsagents across the road. We often have a good chat, as I do with the manager too.
I only go in there for cat litter (or fags, when I can't face going to the mini-supermarket up the road).
I never look my best. Never bother with make-up and usually just pull on the nearest pair of trousers and tshirt to go to the shop (spend my days slouching about in PJs, or vest tops and shorts in the summer).
We were just chatting about monitoring stock control of ciggies (I suspect they think someone is not putting the money in the till) and then he asked me out as I was heading out the door. It has been so long since someone has asked me out on a date that I didn't know what to say. So I said 'Sorry, what?'
He asked if I would like to go out for a drink. Again I was gob-smacked.
I think I muttered something about being young (ha!), free and single and enjoying it (ha!). But if I changed my mind I would let him know.

Live a little... let the man buy you a drink. You don't have to go home with him after the fact. But you might just enjoy yourself.

I never assume people accept. I don't accept every person who asks me either.

Well, I don't actually get many offers since I hide myself away.
But I went to the shop tonight and he was in there and although we had a chat (he told me his shifts for the next few days and where and when he goes on holiday ) it wasn't as awkward as I thought it would be!
Typical really, I don't go very far but...
I am very smitten with my pharmacist - she is straight.
I get on well with, and fancy, a guy in the mini-supermarket, (I bumped into in the pub a couple of times) - he is gay.
So who asks me out? The bloke I have no interest in!

Ach, okay I understand. That's the way it always seems to go... There was a guy that I adored, but he was dating someone else. 3 months after I started dating someone else, he became avail and wanted to date me. The pattern repeated a couple of time for 3 years... eventually we went out and it was determined we'd been friends to long at that point to date.

Mort? Wanna go on a date with me?

when i said "where are you going?" i *was* assuming you had accepted the date & was wondering what sort of date it was, y'know, for a drink, restaurant, concert, cinema, walk in the park etc etc.
I can sympathise with your type reaction; i don't generally do "dates" as such either; i reckon i must have had about 4 in my life; i tend to meet 'em somehow on the Friday, at first sight, back to my place, move in together next day sorta thing.
Funny you should mention pharmacists, there is one here who is utterly gorgeous, i call her "The world's most beautiful pharmacist"! Dunno if she is straight, lesbian or bi; whatever, she is drop dead lovely & very friendly & helpful too.
Anyway, even if you didn't accept the date, at least this guy seems friendly & mates are always a bonus. If he isn't bothered by the "Mort in PJ's with" type look, it suggests he likes you for the real you, which is a good sign, i'm sure even the likes of Claudia Schiffer have times when they look like normal humans & slop about; it's not a crime!

I'm sobbing hysterically owing to not being answered. I'm kind of...well, let's not say obsessed... with this girl I know but she said that if she kissed another girl it would 'make her hurl'.
But she has fabulous legs...

"So who asks me out? The bloke I have no interest in". Mort, these are modern times, aren't they? You yourself can ask anyone you fancy out for a date.
