That's the way political progress is made...in lots of small steps. Everyone wants to be involved in the 'glamour' campaigns - for President or Governor or Senator. But, it is at the local level where people can actually make a difference.

Definitely This wasn't much of a glamorous campaign, the Republican looked like she was an evil witch who would boil newt heart. The Democrat was a very good candidate. An Iraq War veteran, charismatic. I wish Ohio could've sent him to the Hill...
Have you been whispering in Chairman Dean's ear? He's telling Dems to start at the local level and work their way up. Good strategy.

Chairman Dean does not seek me out and ask advise. More's the pity as he definitely could use some on occassion.

You're right about that.
I think Dean targetted Missouri as one of the first states where money is being sent to build a permanent state-wide organization.

That is actually smart. He has a chance to win in Missouri. Our new Republican Governor is an eejit and very unpopular.

If he's got a chance to get Missouri, he'd have to scream about... I don't know, how chocolate buckeyes are not a delicious treat, to lose Ohio. Our governor is the least popular in the nation, there was coin-gate, Senator DeWine is unpopular because of the filibuster compromise.
It's a perfect storm

I keep having this sinking feeling though that the Democrats will put up a really poor candidate again. I wonder if the GOP will run Jeb?

J Posted Aug 4, 2005
Nah. Someone mentioned that in the past however many elections, a Republican named Bush or Dole has always been on the ticket. It's getting ridiculous.
Who would be a bad candidate? Hillary?
I like Gen. Wesley Clark, myself.

Clark is good, McCain is good- either way, they're not Bush.
I'd like to see Biden run. He's got a sense of humor.

J Posted Aug 5, 2005
Did you see Biden on Jon Stewart? I was struck by that too. He was much funnier than I expected him to be.
McCain, I dunno. He's a brilliant politician, because the press makes a big deal out of it every time he takes an independent stance, but most of the time, he votes with Bush.

As to Hillary - I personally like her but am not sure she would be a good candidate. Biden would never win. He has been one of my favorites for years. I seem to always like candidates with no chance of winning. Clark never has appealed to me for some reason.
We need someone without any baggage for a change.

I think Hillary would win, unless the Republicans run a very good candidate. They don't have a whole lot of people to run, though.

Hypatia Posted Aug 5, 2005
Good grief! They even won with Dubya! What makes you think they need a decent candidate? I think Hillary could carry the northeast and the west. I don't know if she could carry the midwest. The Republicans are definitely afraid of her however. They are already trying to demonize her.
A lot of men will never vote for a woman, no matter how quualified she is.

Meh. Those sorts of men don't vote Democrat anyways.
All the Republican stars are moderate-to-liberal, so they can't win primaries. Some conservative will come along and win the nomination despite being a terrible politician. This is my prediction.
Plus, Karl Rove will probably be out of the picture

We can't see Rove's back soon enough to suit me.
I guess Novak threw a little fit and has been reprimanded by CNN. You have no idea how much I dislike Novak.

Watch out for Pennsylvania's idiot governor Ed 'Fast Eddie' Rendell...
He's a Dem that some people are talking about for a possible run for the White House. And seriously, you guys can have him. I'd vote for him for president just to get him out of the state capital, figuring the higher he goes the less actual harm he'll be able to do.
My Whillickers! (with circus)
J Posted Aug 5, 2005
Yeah, Novak was debating James Carville and said 'This is bulls**t' and stormed off. I very much dislike Novak and very much like Carville, so I'm happy.
Jimi, what's your take on the Pennsylvania Senator race? Santorum?
My Whillickers! (with circus)
Hypatia Posted Aug 5, 2005
Dang Jimi. Do all of us have rotten governor's who want to be president?
There are lame politicians in both parties. Remember the old days when there were actually a few statesmen here and there? It's sure hard to find any these days.
