H is right, though here's a suggestion which fits the Ohio vs World connection and is as American as Mom, Baseball and applepie
Simon Kenton, a man I personally consider to be one our nations greatest heros. I would start the research by reading 'The Frontiersman' by Allen Eckert. It is a richly detailed duel biography chronicling the life and times of this pioneer as well as that of the legendary Shawnee cheif Tecumseh, a man as deserving of an entry as Simon.
If nothing else this is a book to read for a glimpse at our roots and as a recent reprint of the original shows, I am not alone in my assesment of this work as one of true greatness. It was responible for helping shape how I try to conduct myself in this world, with dignity, honor and perseverance.
Just an idea.
Urbana, Ohio is the final resting place of Mr. Kenton and a memorial was erected on that sight. So, there you go. If nothing else read the book, and I implore all who read this thread to do the same for it is gripping.

RFK would be an awesome topic! I can't believe no one did one yet!
I went to school around Cleveland area, but I grew up near Steubenville, and that's where I'm spending the summer.

Steubenville has an incredible amount of history in it, doesn't it? If memory serves, the lady they were talking about in Hang on Sloopy is from there, and Dean Martin. Named after the Baron. You should write about Steubenville.
Between us, we will take over the Front Page, and make it all Ohio all the time
Ahem.
RFK is one of my heroes, so he may just be next.

Another idea for the USS Ohio would be

This is one I would very much like to see, or the history of Ohio in the US Navy!

Hey FS Haven't seen you around in a while.
I'll look into the USS Ohio, but I'm no naval historian...
You know what they say. If you (you, not me) want something done right, you (you, not me) have to do it yourself (yourself, not myself)

And I keep telling you I don't know a thing about the man other than his name
And that he was from Ohio.

Ooh I just thought of something. I have 88 accepted entries right now, and there are 88 counties in Ohio.
I hereby dedicate one of my entries for each county.
I like this. I think I shall keep it.

So which Ohioan (how do you spell that?) county gets the Smurfs dedicated to it?

J Posted Aug 1, 2005
Ohioan, yes. Though I prefer to think of them as 'God's People' or 'The Chosen Ones'.
Cuyahoga. Bluest, most Democratic county in the state, so it gets the Blue people.

Y'know, I decided I was going to match the 88 counties with the 88 entries I had last night, but after I got to "I Love Lucy" and Ashtabula, I realized how remarkably pointless it was...
Plus, the entry number has been bumped up to 89 anyhoo, upon further investigation.
I've decided that my next two numbers shall be, God willing, Alexander Hamilton, William McKinley (an Ohioan Prez) and Robert F Kennedy.

Four's more than two more than three is...
No EG entry on 'God Willing' then? I was looking forward to that, though I hadn't realised he was Ohioan til now. Thinking about it - of course he'd have to be.
You're so close to the 100, Jodan. You've got to go for it.

PS eleven is a Kricket team. You should be well scared.

Four's scores less than seven, and was years ago.
You know what they say - God is everywhere. I'm not going to say He's an Ohioan, or that He likes sheep more than birds, but... no I am going to go ahead and say that. God is from Akron.
Actually, in a PR thread, Phred (*waves*) pointed out an article that said that the word 'Indian' might actually come from Columbus calling the Native Americans 'un gente que vive en dios', or people who live in God, specifically the 'en dios' part.
I don't know what made me think of that, but there were plenty of un gente que vive en dios in Ohio
I'm going to keep putting entries in PR, but I'm not going for anything. 100 isn't anything anyways. It's just one number followed by two circles posing as a number.

OK. So the (former) Michigan guy just has to chime in to say if God *is* from Ohio, we can only say we're pretty sure why we're using the word 'from'.
