Another year, another set of exams. Well, that is what the school system is like these days! I vaguley remember exams at primary school... though back then it wasn't until year 3-4 I really started understanding what they were. But SATS and internal school exams (so they could determine who needed extra help, and so they could train us for the SATS) meant that certainly from year 3 (and possibly before) I've had exams each year. And so here I am, the final year of school, the final set of exams. Three years, three major sets of exams. Fun for the whole family!!
Despite the fact I still haven't even sat the A level mocks I have already finished my UCAS applications (and to anyone else out there who hasn't I feel your pain!!) and I have so far had a response from one University (East Anglia, accepting me if I get AAB! In their prospectus they only wanted ABB-ABC!!!). I'm sure other responses will follow and then I'll have to make my final choices.
For those of you who don't know, and I can't actually recall mentioning it to more than 2-3 people here, I am applying for a degree in Philosophy. The worrying thing is that I nearly didn't take it at AS level, and it was only in the week before term started that I decided to change subjects and take it. And now here I am prepared to dedicate the next 3 years to it... such is life I guess!
In other news I am currently on half term (though that ends on monday ) and am still taking all four of my subjects; my school talked me into it
. Though when we get to the mocks I'll decide if I want to drop anything or not (basically if I feel taking a fourth isn't giving me time to concentrate on the other three... or if I *still* haven't started my history coursework by then (which I've been able to start since the beginning of last summer holidays
) I'll drop history, (or something else if History is going very well, which is doubtful)). This past week has flown by, though without me doing much in it; my friends are away, working (why do people work so much to earn money to use when they go out, and not realise they are doing so much work they don't have time to go out????) or have German exchange partners over. So all in all my life is plodding along at its normal dull rate!
Can't wait till Uni - party every night (ok I can dream!)

You guys take the SAT in Britain, too? I thought it was just an American test.

No, English SATS are different to american ones, they have no bearing on anything. Our teachers say that they're to show the board of education how the SCHOOL is doing, not us...(yeah right, it doesn't stop them from trying to make us revise for them. Revise! When you're twelve????)
Edd - give up history! You shouldn't do four, it just makes things harder...and if a uni wants AAA, if you're doing four they just say "oh, well, give us FOUR As instead!"
Do the smart thing, give up history
Philosophy? Sounds cool
Oh, and with UEA, if they had many more applicants then they'd have to put up the grade requirements...did they say that exactly, AAB, or did they give it to you in UCAS Tariff points?
I'm still waiting to hear from all my other Unis, only Birmingham have said aything, and I've had the interview now....urg, I want an offer!

Oh--that sounds like Bush's No Child Left Behind act--every state has to have tests like that to prove the schools aren't failing; the end result is that the teachers spend half the year teaching to the test.

I don't know what the purpose of them are, I think they just are there to see where we all are. But kids failing? At my school? *sniggers* The teachers would throw a fit...so I don't see why all of us have to take them. Pah!
Never mind, they're over now

History ain't bad... I just have a continuing conflict with one of my teachers (in a nice way, not in a kinda way) and haven't started coursework yet. But that is my fault really... when push comes to shove though I'll do what has to be done. And if that is drop history then I will. And if that is actually
do w**k
then I guess I'll do that!

I've had 3 offers now and I have an interview at Cambridge on 8/12/04. So everything is starting to kick off now!
Subject wise school is going fine, well it is currently! I won't risk saying it will stay like that for fear of jinxing it!
