I thought it was about time that I updated my journal!
I'm very happy!
Somebody was silly enough to employ me!
Anyway the job is great, goodness knows how on earth I came to deserve the title 'Design Engineer' but... hooo yus... it was given!!
So, I'm so sorry Trisha, but your show ratings are going to have to survive without me!!!
all round!!

What is a design engineer?
Do you sharpen pencils for architects ?
Thread needles for seamstresses ?
Clean keyboards for web-wizards ?

Congrats Genie, whats it doing then? Still 'civil' engineering?
You going to be famous for designing and managing the next 'giant gherkin' office block in London then?

I wish it was as easy as sharpening pencils McKay!!
10 points to Ictoan! yes its Civil Engineering
I'm working on a bridge structure project which basically is the inspection, survey and recommendation for rectification of faults....
I'm also working on a disused railway feaseability study....
Please take note that if I ever design something that even remotely resembles a member of the fruit and veg family......
.....shoot me...
mmmmmm yes that wonkeye looks a little odd, how did you get it?...perhaps it was something you were spying? ........ like a mirror....

"I'm also working on a disused railway feaseability study...."
OK, confused, does this mean
1) A study on the feasibility of building disused railways?
2) A study on the feasibility of making the railway system in the UK disused?
3) A study on the feasibility of the existence of disused railways?

It means studying the feaseability of re-opening disused train lines.
some of which still have rails etc, some don't even have the formation intact....
There are line which could potentially be very profitable for an operating company to run, it just depends on how much is needed to make it operational again!

Tell me about it - I'm running Network Rail's computer systems (most of anyway) - There's a lot of 'potential' for development out there.
(Then we can tell the EU to get stuffed and ban all lorries over 15 tons)

only problem I can foresee is that the disused rail lines I know of in Brum all seem to be used a central rubbish dumps by the local populace. Mind you, in certain areas, they seem to use the active lines as well! Sofa's, TVs, armchairs, bicycles, fridges, you could open a branch of Comet on the embankments between NewStreet and Bham International!

yes fly tipping is a big problem... The funniest thing is that when you go past on the train there is a pile of rubbish at the end of someone's garden, but no access to the railway line...
.....which really makes me think... I wonder who dumped that there? Duuuhr...
