Something Weird Happened
Reefgirl (Brunel Baby) Started conversation Dec 21, 2006
Me and Mum recieved food parcels from the church this afternoon. It's a nice gesture but we're not needy, surely there must be people worse off than us, the only reason I can think of is that we qualify because I'm a single mum and Mum is a widow, we couldn't really refuse because it was from the church. What a dilema

Sounds interesting. Maybe they sent parcels to everyone in the area? It's always nice to know someone cares though.

Perhaps you can pass them on to someone you know who IS more needy? Quietly, of course.

Maybe we could, I think they had so much stuff given to them (It looks like Harvest Festival Stuff) that everyone in the church got some

Perhaps. I know that some of these things get so much donated to them that there aren't enough of the truely needy to give to, so rather than waste it, they give to everyone that they can.

We should have such worries here. Our churches and food banks are perpetually trying to operate with barren shelves, reguardless of how many food drives occur in a month or year.
A recently moved neighbor grew to expect our "gift" of groceries at Christmas. We didn't give fig about her military rat of a husband, who was consuming the household income in stupid ways. It was the missus and the 3 little girls that we tried to feed.

We just received some reward for it yesterday in the mails. We helped her and the girls set up home, when the marriage finally dissolved. And this past summer, helped pack and load them so she could move to her parents' home, about 3,500 or so miles away. Yesterday's mail brought a small craft-book, with a little story of each girl and how they are doing. With a recent piccy of each. And the most heart-touching Christmas card. Milady was in tears for a time.

It's actually quite amazing how many cards we have received this year. I'd guess the count to be around 40'ish now. The first having arrived from Essex, and one from Gosport just yesterday.

And yet anything that I posted across the waters, including one very heavy package, all arrived in less than a calendar week. Very odd. Still, thank you very much.

If you think that everyone else locally has what they need then, compliments of a well gifted church, ... It's all good non-perishables that can be reserved for the next time a food-drive comes your way. It still will find it's way to those in need.

All useful stuff then. Why dont you ask the nursing staff if they know of a bod living on thair own, just about to be discharged, that could do with some help to get back on thair feet.
Your problem is that along with all us nice guys is that you have a conscience

I seldom find that as a problem. Just something looking for a better answer. Yours sounds like a good and immediate one.
