I'm leaving Somerset tonight to go and stay with a friend who is expecting her second child soon - she's asked me to give her shiatsu during the labour.
I attended her first birth (nearly two years ago! ) in hospital, and she plans to have this birth at home - I'm hoping that being in her own space will really make a difference and smooth things along, rather than a reapeat performance of 20+ hours...
Wish us luck!

Thanks
Yes I was at her first birth - I gave her shiatsu (well more like acupressure) throughout the labour... all 20 hours of it!
It was worth it though - what a life changing experience to have been priviliged enough to see the first time that a mother looks into their new born's eyes.

Good luckto you all, and welcome to the new baby
I had my sister with me for Andrew's birth, she was wonderful.
It created such a loving bond between us, or should I say, strengthened what we already had.
My son Allan was born in 57 minutes.
From the first "pain", to me holding him, less than an hour.
It never hurt at all.
It was the most beautiful experience of my life.
He's 21 next month
Babies, oh how I miss my babies!!

hope the birth goes well. Second babies are usually much easier and quicker, especially with the safety of home and supportive friends. I feel honoured to attend births, they are such holy events. Lots of love to you all

Thanks Meg!
Despite being in hospital, the first birth was such a sacred event - I feel very blessed to have been there.
We have a homoeopathic birth kit now as well, so I'm hoping that the combination of shiatsu and homoeopathy will ease the new earthling into the world nice and smoothly.

Thanks Sho!
Good to see you back after your hols.
No chance of a tan for me this year though.
Mind you, it's not exactly an easy feat trying to tan your skin when you're ginger.

Well, pale and interesting (and freckly?) looks so much better on a ginger haired person than on a mousey one.
By rights I should be ginger, my mum is and we have the same green eyes and freckly skin.
So... how was the birth? Or didn't it happen yet?

Nope, she hasn't dropped the sprog yet.
I hope she has it in the next week as I have to go back home at the weekend.
So fingers crossed!

Still waiting to hear the news. I attended a lovely birth last week. It is worth all the stress when there is a happy family at the end of the day
