Should I stay or should I go?

A minor dilemma, but not exactly what the song was about.

My roommate and I work together pretty decently- at least better than most of my other roommates throughout college history. She doesn't own a hamster that likes to sleep in my bed, she doesn't leave food out on the counter to go bad, our dishes have never started growing things, she leaves my stuff alone, and she and her boyfriend don't do the nasty anywhere I care about. She's nice, and I like to think we get along well. We were planning on moving in together next year in a 2 bedroom apartment.

However, there's been some friction between us recently. We can't seem to agree on a place to live- I'd like something within walking distance, she seems enamoured by this place way the smiley - bleep out away from campus. Also, she doesn't really deal with stress well. The other night I had the TV up a little louder than I normally do, not out of spite or anything, but because my ears were clogged, and I couldn't hear it. When she asked me to turn the TV down, I explained to her that it was an hour long program and I couldn't hear it at the normal volume, and advised her to put on a pair of headphones- she blew up and said some very nasty things to me about not belonging in grad school because I watch so much TV. I mean, it was like I had widdled in her shampoo or something! And if she's this stressed out about an hour long TV show on a Friday, what's going to happen if I want to have friends over during the week? I shudder to think about splitting utility bills.

The point is, I don't know how good it's going to be next year living with her. More importantly, a place very close to campus has just opened up with two of my friends from my department. They have cats, but as long as they stay out of my room, I think I'll be OK. I know I can get along with these people, because I work with them and hang out with them, and go to parties at their house. Plus, it's pretty cheap. I'm really strongly debating moving in with these two other girls instead of going with my current roommate.

Any thoughts from those more experienced in matters of housing?

T.B. Falsename ACE: [stercus venio] I have learned from my mistakes, and feel I could repeat them exactly.

They have a Corgi? Cardigan or Pembroke? If it's a Cardigan then move in with them! I had a Cardigan Corgi, lovely he was, for 18 yrs of my life, till a few weeks, 3 I think, after my 21st, he was my best friend and I loved him more than anyone or anything.

smiley - cheers

In my experience living with people just ain't the same as hanging out with them...
That said, if you really don't feel confident in going on with your current room mate and conversely do feel confident in these other guys then the choice is made for you.

It's not really a kind of corgi- it's got some corgi in it. A grade-A mutt.

And I'm going to dinner on Friday at their house, so we'll see how it works there.

Well, I went to dinner!

And it turns out I'm allergic to the cats. smiley - sadface My eye swelled up and turned nuclear-reactor red about an hour into the visit. I can't afford shots right now, so I'm going to have to look somewhere else.

How disappointing.

Yeah, it was pretty bad. But I also learned that when I get a pet, it's going to have to be a bird or a dog. Maybe a rabbit.

If you get a rabbit you might wanna go with a Rex they're handsome, have really lovely coats, come in wide range of colours and usual enjoy being handled.

Or if you have a large house with a VERY large garden you could try this fella Herman the German Rabbit http://news.bbc.co.uk/cbbcnews/hi/newsid_4670000/newsid_4676900/4676904.stm Click on the enlarge pic link to get an idea of how big this bunny is

One outcome from your visit, Scan, was a positive answer, no waivering, which is usually a good thing. Not meant to be, even if you would have liked it.

Hope you get sorted soon. It doesn't sound like a lot of fun at the moment.

I don't think so, but he reminds me an awful lot of a teddy bear that I had when I was a kid. For a while, it was bigger than I was!

I just didn't want to start a new journal entry, but I have to rant somewhere.

Krupali and I had an argument last night- she was upset that I'd opened a window in the living room while her fish was out there. I took mine in my room because I had space for it there, and I wanted some company while I was working, and I'd fallen asleep over some papers. It wasn't like it ever got that cold in the apartment, and it wasn't like I wasn't there. You know, I don't understand it- they keep the temperature above 75º the whole winter, and as soon as the highs hit 60º the air conditioning comes on. I probably said something that upset her because I was upset, and she blew up about dishes in the sink. She overreacted, I more than likely overreacted- but even owls overreact at 2 AM. We both ended up going to bed angry, and that's never good.

I don't think I'm that demanding of a roommate, am I? I mean, all I wanted was to be comfortable in my own room, and all I really ask them to put up with are some dishes in the sink, and I never let them sit for more than a day or two, and there's always room for people to work. I clean the floors and kitchen counters when they need it, I wipe up in the bathroom after everyone's showered, I put up with everyone's boyfriend at all hours of the night, I don't play loud music, I don't have people over, I rarely watch TV, I don't think I disturb them all that much.

I just have to keep the peace for a few more weeks.
