Three days without a cigarette...

Still hanging on... and still haven't actually murdered anyone
Although I haven't been out for a drink yet so that particular nightmare's still to come... and am attempting to get through today without wearing a patch... you were right about them messing up your sleep!

Well done that man!!!
I've heard that a book by Allen Carr is supposed to be particularly good if you need any extra help -

Three days without a cigarette...

Ahhh, Good question!
I've been very good over Christmas, (mainly because Mark and the children have been there to catch me!) but I keep smoking in social drinks situations, which really isn't stopping is it? I want to stop completely. I gave up for 12 years and started again about 4 years ago, so I have no excuse at all, I know I can do it, I just think I'm unwilling to let go completely.
I'm going to get the above book as well, I've been told it helps.
So I'm at the given up for about two months, but lapsed on the following 20 dates stage.... not too good huh?

I read somewhere that an occasional lapse does not mean you're a smoker again... as long as you can go back to being a non-smoker the day after then everything's ok...

I think it depends how often you lapse. Mark smokes very occasionally, every two months or so and never seems to get addicted. I know that I can resist a cigarette, but I'm doing just that, resisting, just hanging on until the next time when I can justify having a cigarette to myself and the people around me. I'm stressed, I'm out with friends who smoke etc etc
When I gave up for 12 years I know my attitude was different, I really didn't want one anymore and it wouldn't occur to me to have one under any circumstances, I'd like to get back to that, its so much easier in the end.
Are you still hanging in there? Is it getting any easier now?

Still hanging in there... and I know what you mean, at the moment I'm still a smoker trying to ignore the fact I'm dying for a cigarette... it'll be a while before I get to the stage where I'm free of the things I think.
(Oh, and I've given up on the patches completely now, they were doing horrible things to my brain at four in the morning )
I'm now on two "herbal eucalyptus and mint, nicotine-free cigarettes" per day... and the things are truely disgusting!

My young man was recently introduced to a peppermint mouthwash thing. You have a gargle with it, then for 6 hours cigarettes taste so foul that you can't smoke them. Might be worth a try!

Someone once told me that when the cravings get a bit drastic, swilling really cold water 'round your gob then spitting it out takes them away. Having never tried to give up, I don't know whether it works or not...

Haven't you got anything to keep you busy?

Drinking milk instead of the usual coffee/tea is supposed to help too - imagine having a nice cigarette with a glass of milk? That has to be yuk for everyone!
