Hmm. Depending on how good they are at English and/or weasel words, that could be taken as an admission that there *is* such a moderation decision to be discussed.

"Depending on how good they are at English and/or weasel words, that could be taken as an admission that there *is* such a moderation decision to be discussed."
SEF: Not necessarily, whether or not moderation had happened would still be confidential.

That's exactly what I meant by "depending on how good", Ferrettbadger.

I am not sure how exactly. Being a politician I am rather good at sophistry, I do not see how that involves accepting a ban is in place.

It is my impression that politicians merely like to think they are good at sophistry while their attempts to obfuscate an issue are entirely transparent to the intelligent. This is why certain interviewers are disliked more than others because they can see right through the evasions and half-truths and point out these things while posing the question again. Of course I wouldn't know which politician you are so I can't say that this applies in your case.
Anyhow, it is not a question of whether you (or I or anyone else might have worded something that way or any other way). The issue I was pointing out was whether the writer(s) of that email had thought it out that way.

I rather disagree with your argument; politicians by nature of what they are are creatures of compromise who have to answer any question directed at them within a specific policy framework. That is their job, and interviewer will ask leading questions trying to get a specific response (epistemology)and the politician will try to answer ontologically (by that I mean I cannot answer the question you have asked be because I do not accept your general premise). I would argue (knowing several politicians) that generally speaking they are very intelligent people who very skilled at talking and debating.
However to get back on topic as far as I can see if Moderation cannot be publically discussed and is confidential then confirming or denying whether or not moderation is taking place comes under that; therefore I deduce that any question directed to the italics about moderation cases PERIOD, would get the same answer. In addition to that I also feel that you cannot read anything into that response.
P.S. For the record I have been involved in local politics, but have since left the party of my choice due to being disillusioned with the whole shebang. Despite this "Once a politician always a politician!"

The interesting thing to me is "Moderation decisions are confidential," which seems to imply that the transgressions procedure is a thing of the past.

Read the <./>HouseRules</.> pages and then perhaps you'll figure it out.
If you want to be saved the bother, then the short version is that they are supposed to announce bans on site in a couple of ways. For details and exceptions *read* *the* *manual*.

U211780 Symphony is banned from h2g2.
Note to readers of the backlog: this fact is not guaranteed to be true throughout all space-time, merely at time and place of posting.

SEF:
Evidently your interpretation of the word "FACT" is different from mine. There is no notification on Symphony's personal space to suggest that they are suspended, so therefore unless you are party to information not availible on hootoo then you cannot know that for a "FACT"

Honestly, how old are you two? I for one would like to see some kind of result come from this.
Go ahead and get at each other's throats. I'll even subscribe to that thread, but this isn't the time or the place for it.

SEF Posted Aug 13, 2003
Of course. I said it when someone here was being dishonest. I, on the other hand, have been entirely truthful. Your inability to see that is your problem and not mine. It speaks of a lack of knowledge and imagination on your part and I have no intention of helping you out with either. If you think my FACT is not one then try proving that I haven't told the truth about it. The staff could comment but they are refusing to do so. Again, not my fault and not really my problem. It says more about them than it does about me.

Hey look, I'm back!
Apologies for my absence. Symphony's computer fell foul of the RPC/msblast security hole/virus that hit on Monday. I've been trying to recover it for them, because it was well and truly messed up. XP Pro is a pain in the axxe to fix.
I'm going to go read the backlog.
BTW, if anyone wants proof that the ban is real, please feel free to email me. I have Symphony's permission to forward their emails to anyone who wants them. They'd do it themselves, but I haven't managed to get them back online yet.

Welcome back, Mistdancer.
I was wondering what had happened to you but since you hadn't been kicked out of the volunteer groups it seemed likely that you hadn't been banned too. I don't know why people here didn't believe your eye-witness testimony or why they were even more hostile to my independent evidence from an undisclosed source (which will remain so).
Sorry to hear about Symphony's computer problems. I'm very glad I didn't get that virus. I had just installed fairly good firewall protection though. I've never been a fan of M$. The odd thing is that I've heard some techies say how good XP is at self-fixing other problems, but perhaps that makes it all the worse if a virus does get in.

I just spent two hours on the Micro$oft site, trying to answer this relatively simple question:
"What's the price, in pounds sterling, of the cheapest copy of Windows XP which can work as a networked client to a copy of MS Server 2003?"
It only took about half an hour to figure out from the doublespeak that XP home edition had been deliberately crippled in that respect. The next hour and a half was spent screaming at the machine, as every link that suggested it might be relevant either took me to yet another three-page "feature list" with no pricing information, took me to a US site giving all the prices in dollars, or in one case took me through a "volume licencing" questionnaire which ended up telling me to phone a US "toll-free" number to get the current price for five licences. Eventually, through DABS, I found that the single licence price is £252.62 inc VAT per machine, or £170.37 inc. VAT to upgrade from XP home. (I'm trying to work out what it'll cost for five "legitimate" workstations. I can get Athlon 2800+ systems with XP home pre-installed for £670 each, but the extra 5 x £170.37 is the killer...)
