Almighty God punished sin time after time again in days of old. We are told how he rained down his wrath upon many wicked cities and civilisations - eg, Sodom and Gomorrah, the Egyptians, the Hittites, etc. He has wiped out millions of citizens in more recent times too - the Black Death, the Great Plague as punishment for witchcraft and devil-worship in Europe. And need I remind people of the terrible fate of the jews in World War II?

So why do professing Christians speak anything BUT the truth in light of recent events.

There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that the residents of New Orleans brought the wrath of God upon themselves.

Jesus Christ HATES sin. Why can the liberals not understand this? Is it any wonder God punished that city with a mighty wind in light of their festival celebrating that which is an abomination to God? They should be on their knees repenting, begging God for mercy, instead of trying to blame mortal men for their failings in their rescue effort.

Remember that Lot's wife was turned into a pillar of salt when she looked back upon Sodom and Gomorrah. No wonder President Bush has been reluctant to meddle in the affairs of his own City of Sin, after Almighty God has destroyed it.

God is punishing the people of New Orleans for their idolatory, for celebrating this goddless festival of Mardi Gras.

Sure in the old days the bigG would turn a WHOLE city to salt or cover the entire earth in water but he hasnt gone in for the grand gestures lately. Martin Luther was a great man. He was a sinner like everyone else but he managed to turn people back to the Bible and expose the corruption within the Church of Rome.

However, I do wonder what Sam means by the Jews and WWII. That was because of Hitler and his evolutionary beliefs. God did not do that. However, He did let it happen although I will not say why. But it was necessary for Biblical prophecy to come true (the Jews returned to their homeland).

While many Jews do reject the Messiah, they are still God's people. I thought you knew that Sam?

Hello there Sam. Nice to hear from you again and I hope you enjoyed your holiday.

Now I agree that the Lord can and has punished the wicked. However, I am not too sure about this for a few reasons. The first one is the obvious reason that (I think anyway) this happened in Bible-belt land. A lot of the people here would have been born-again Christians.

Another reason is that the Bible states 'As I live, saith the Lord GOD, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live.' Ezekiel 33:11 This seems to contradict the idea that God is punishing the wicked through these disasters.

Here is a thought. In Ephesians chapter 2, it refers to Satan as 'the prince of the power of the air'. The Bible also tells us that Satan is the ruler of this world (for this time). But notice the word 'air'. Perhaps Satan can use the weather to his advantage (permitted by God of course). It would then be Satan who is killing these people. And because of events like this, people doubt God so Satan would be leading more people to Hell.

It is an interesting idea so let me know what you think.

Best leave the jews to one side for the moment, because the mods do not like that sort of discussion! I agree that they are still God's people, and that many will be saved in the last days. He will greatly bless Israel in these latter times in her war against her enemies, and the Russians will come straight to their aid. That's what the Bible seems to suggest anyhow.

On this question of natural disasters like these, we must realise that not a single thing happens without God's say-so. I believe God sent this storm to destroy the wicked city of New Orleans. Although there are many Christian people in surrounding states, they have also recently been confronted by liberal governors and mayors, who have started to permit gambling, whoring, and that sort of thing in local towns and villages. I am in no doubt this is a punishment from God, just like Sodom and Gomorrah, 7/7 and 9/11.

God does not take pleasure in the death of the wicked - but His wrath is a natural consequence of their sin. He does not just do it for a kick!

Has a Christian ever been struck by lightening? By a bus? Did God send the storm? The lightening? The bus? Do any fornicators or homosexuals ever live to a ripe old age and die peacefully in their sleep surrounded by their loved ones and the fruits of their labours on this earth? Do any Christians ever die young and in agony after watching their children murdered before their eyes?

If you really believe in a god of such consistency of punishment and reward, have a really nice time with it. The rest of us, of course, are fully aware of the identity of such a Prince of Capriciousness.
