A lady from the local council has just been to see me and apologised profusely that they made a big cock up. I will get a letter from the head dude in a few days saying the same.
Apparently I was right and could have sued the pants off them
One up for the little person(well middle aged fat lady). The nasty man who was sending me the letters and emails will come back from holidays on Monday to find he is in big trouble. He should be sent on a training course on how to be polite to people.I offered to supervise his re-training but she politely declined
So I can relax again until the next disaster

it only took me 3 and half years to get the council to take my tree down,the cause of subsidence, even after they took an identical one down 2 doors away citing that it caused "subsidence"
