The TV in my current temporary accomodation takes a few seconds to warm up, and always starts off in black-and-white. When I turned it on yesterday evening I thought the aerial pictures it was showing were archive footage of the Lynmouth disaster, exactly 52 years ago. I was horrified when the commentary revealed that these were minutes-old images of one of my favourite places in the world.

At different times I have stayed in the buildings both on the left and the right of the picture currently at the top of the above article. I've always thought of Boscastle as one of the loveliest places on earth.

As I write, the good news is that - miraculously - there have been no deaths reported, though there are still people not accounted for, and police divers are searching cars under the waters of the harbour.

Please spare a thought or a prayer for the locals and visitors involved.

There is only one thing worse than being Gosho, and that is not being Gosho

I've seen some pictures on News World International, and I'll be sure to watch the news on BBC America this evening.

Like it or lump it, you can't argue with nature.

Wise words Goshers.

It was very strange to see people being airlifted off the roof of the Riverside Hotel, where I have stayed on several occasions. According to the owner, he had great difficulty persuading people to leave the restaurant area - they just sat waiting for their cream teas as the muddy waters rose up to their waists!

It seems quite amazing that no-one seems to have been killed. The papers are calling it a miracle, and I can't think of a better description.

I was reading the papers, and they were reporting the general miracle of it all, but one particular wee story made me smile. A youngster (maybe sixteen months old) was sat with her mum on the roof of the family car practicing her latest word "water" and pointing at all the sticks floating past at speed. Apparently she was not afraid and had that inbuilt toddler faith that all would be well because mummy/daddy was there. When they were airlifted they had to put the toddler in the rucksack of the pilot of the helicopter because she was too small for a winch. Apparently she loved every minute. It's small stories like this that make you realise that mother nature is a scary bird, but has a lot of love in her heart and a wicked sense of humour.

My thoughts to everyone in Boscastle, apparently they are being allowed back in their houses today.

Don Malvado, so bitter my cat won't even lick me

They were lucky it didn't happen in the middle of the night!

My family own a chalet park in cornwall. We've had people ring up to ask if it still there.

It is. We had some heavy rain and there was a bit of flooding in the village but its all OK
