GMail gets fatter
GreyDesk Started conversation Apr 1, 2005
Today Goggle are launching their "infinity +1" project for GMail.
The gist of it is that they're increasing the size of everyone's storage space to 2Gb in the first instance, and then onwards and upwards as resources allow.
Well the amusing gimmick bit is the way that they are doing the roll out.
On the 'Welcome of Gmail' login page there is a pencil sketched graph showing the future progression of the project, and a counter that is rolling along counting up from 1,000 to 2,000 (and done to six decimal places ) which represents the size of one's current storage space.
It's all being done in what to my mind is a cute and folksy sort of a way, of which I thoroughly approve

And once you're logged in, if you reload your inbox, the counter for how much space you've got goes up.
Mine has just climbed from 1,409 to 1,412
(and I'm still using less than 3% of the whole)

It works for me but I am still only using 1%
I had assumed it was an April fool - a bit like the one I got from Podgear who do stuff for IPods telling me that they are launching the Podshave - to allow you to shave from where every you are They even have a product page for it on their site - I expected a you have been fooled type message but there is a semi designed shaving attachment called IShave! Aparently the vibrations from the music help you shave more easily

Which just goes to show how much you know about it.
*All* results from a probability test lie between 0 and 1.

Artistic?
You'll never know or understand just how beautiful maths can be when it's at its most true and beautiful.
Sadly I can't appreciate it in all its glory either. I'm just not good enough a mathematician. The best I get is a view of the foothills in the distance

But if it is beautiful from there what is wrong with that view?

I notice that the message in the empty trash box if you delete all messages still says 'Who needs to delete anything when you've got 1000Mb of storage'

It's a shame that they got rid of the sketch showing infinity plus one. I rather liked it.
