Ten minutes in... a lucky escape

Against my better judgement, I decided I'd watch this LoTR malarky that starts on Channel4 tonight.

10 minutes in and it's a steaming pile of gibberish. Pretty looking gibberish, but gibberish none the less. This is a lucky escape, it could so easily have been 10 hours of my life that I would never got back again.

I'll watch Alan Titchmarsh and his thing about the British summer over on BBC1 instead smiley - ok

That might be the wittiest thing I've ever heard from you.

Odo has insisted on LoTR (smiley - headhurts), but we did watch Titchmarsh instead of the first 60 minutes.

How many LoTR films are there? I think I've only watched the first part years ago, didn't like it and didn't bother to watch any further film.

There are three, I'm reliably informed. The current installment has to come in joint first with BBC's Robin Hood for the most ridiculous po-faced thing I've seen this week.

If you'd ever seen the French and Saunders parody, you'd have been chuckling throughout those first 10 minutes and then maybe shouting "Less Panto!" at regular points through the rest. Well, I am anyway.

Channel surfing after watching the truly *excellent* Paul Weller documentary on BBC2. I passed through Channel4 for 30 seconds, and low and behold, there's Sean Bean.

I had no idea that Sharpe played a part in the LoTR - bodice ripping, musket fusillades, British stiff upper lip in a smouldering sort of a way for the ladies, and Orcs all in one place. Blimey smiley - bigeyes

There is only one thing worse than being Gosho, and that is not being Gosho

Would I be wrong in assuming that Channel Four have/are showing all three LotR films back to back?

The film really needs to be seen on the big screen - the opening scenes of LOTR are breathtaking.

Blues Shark - For people who like this sort of thing, then this is just the sort of thing they'll like

For once, GD, B and the smiley - shark are in agreement.

It's pants. Very long, very dull pants. About people with furry feet and pointy ears.

And I *did* see them in the cinema. As my numb bum can attest, particulalry through the utterly pointless last half hour of Return of the King.

Another cinema victim here - but pretty much in agreement with everyone else. Too long, too dull, and *why* that last half hour?

We flicked through on the way to anything else just in time to see sean bean die. We ended up watching Frost, bob help me - don't think I've watched *anything* on ITV for a very long time - we're down to the four (ok, I know theoretically there are 5 but never looks like there is anything on the fifth one) terrestrial channels at the moment while the builders demolish the house. Good job we're too busy to really watch much telly really, just need something vaguely entertaining between 9pm and 10 pm. May go an buy a box set of something - any recommendations?

I'm not really here

I had to go to the cinema to see it because J really wanted to see it. What was interesting was that when he asked for the the DVDs for various birthday and xmas pressies, he didn't ask for them middle one...

I had no strong feelings about any of them either way. smiley - ok

I didn't watch LOTR last night but that was only because I've just watched the extended editions on DVD and can reqwatch these anytime I want.

Kerr_Avon - hunting stray apostrophes and gutting poorly parsed sentences

Saw the first one at the cinema. Never heard so much shuffling in a cinema before. Did not watch the rest, in any form.

Bugger me, that must be a record: GD, BS, B *and* KA agree?

Pity. I can get you in for free.

No offence Gosho, but I really can't imagine anything worse than being jammed in a room for 12 hours doing nothing but watching films and eating for 4 hours, maybe. But 12?

And I still don't get the having a meal while watching a film at the cinema thing.
