Different port, same scenario...
This time it is port used by KaZaa - port 1214 - that has been probed over 2,000 times in the last 20 hours.
The thing is I uninstalled KaZaa last week, as I don't like its spyware getting too comfortable on my PC. So all my 'visitors' are now wasting their time having a pop at my machine

No offence mate, but who would bother themselves with such a thing?

Not to be too much of a buttinski, but I am so here is a good link. It is freeware also to clean your registry, with out buggering much else up(if you are running a microshaft O/S). http://www.vtoy.fi/jv16/shtml/regcleaner.shtml

I only mention it as my firewall (a pity I can't spell that properly at all times ) normally bumbles along at around 50 probes a day. Then all of a sudden it goes manic with a 100+ an hour
Adaware? Great friends of mine Plus their cousins over at Spybot Search & destroy - http://security.kolla.de/index.php
That is the reg cleaner that I use. It's way more user friendly than anything else I've found. Which is particularly useful when you're dealing with an IT moron such as myself.
I only ever install KaZaa when there is something that I want to get a copy of - sharing my stuff at the same time as that only seems fair. As soon as I've got what I want I go back and uninstall the whole shooting match.

...and I forgot to mention the alt.privacy.spyware newsgroup, which is a damn good source of information

There is only one thing worse than being Gosho, and that is not being Gosho Posted May 25, 2003
I can't remember if you told us last time whether these were incoming or outgoing blocks.
And apparently there's a brand new release of SpyBot with many useful new features... which I've yet to download

They're incoming. There is little from my PC that is outgoing, just the odd doleful cry from the RealOne events launcher trying to phone home.

What about 'Run a dll as an app'? That one's often trying to get out, as is the Microsoft Q Manager when I boot up.

That little love is on an 'ask every time' basis. I check to see who is asking before I give the yea or nay.

Soon after the last posting here I rebooted my machine, and from then on the firewall pings dropped to the more usual 10 or so an hour.
