Meeting Mala was fun.
And we didn't even kick her. Though she probably wanted to kick me (I sent her to to a train station that was closed for renovations ).
I don't even need my router anymore, since we can only get the PC to connect the internet (the Mac won't cooperate). But when I disconnect the router I can't figure out how to configure the modem any more. And the cable company wants to charge me $75 an hour to help me. So, I leave the router hooked up anyway.

Hi Mal, assuming you're using windows either xp or vista try just switching the windows firewall on, it's vastly improved and doesn't affect any other anti-virus software but obviously will clash with any existing non-windows firewall. Having said that my isp supplies both a firewall and anti-virus and the windows firewall is still on as well with no clashes. It is recommended that you only run one firewall though.
I've heard that the new version of Firefox has some pretty serious flaws related to security regardless what firewall or anti-virus software is in use. There appears to be other issues where Firefox doesn't recognise standard web colours and fonts too.

Yes, thank you for not kicking me, PC
I use Opera anyway, though not the newest version - I had massive problems with 9.5, will see whether 9.51 is any better when I get a chance.
And only one firewall and one antivirus

I just had six days of misery thanks to Zone Alarm disabling my internet access So if you know anyone who lost connectivity last week and is running Zone Alarm firewall, that's probably what it is

My wife's notebook magically was unable to see the web or e-mails last evening. Applied the same ZoneAlarm over the installed one, and away she went. I'd be passively curious to know how much money ISPs and PC techs are earning from this M$-created nuisance.
