An old hitchhiker done good...

The Corrupt One

Last weekend, I had the most wonderful time at *dramatic chord* Colonel Sellers's wedding. Yes, the infamous hitchhiking, iconoclast Atheist himself, whom many long-time researchers may remember fondly from his numerous articles, or with a not-so-fond flickering of memory from his... er... debates is putting it to mildly, but that's all I can think of at the moment. And the person who led me to h2g2 and inspired my first persona, Corrupt... he is an older, and my very favorite, cousin of mine.

I'm getting off topic. Where was I? Oh yes, my favorite cousin's wedding... Anything in my family is chaotic. It's not a family event if *nothing* decides to go wrong. The decorating got done at the last minute (and almost not at all), but turned out really really great. The ceremony was short and sweet, but when it came to the party, it was one of those "all nighters". And for good reason. Karaoke, a usual fixture at our family's gatherings, kept things interesting (though not always musically inclined); the music kept everyone on their feet dancing, especially during the traditional "dollar dance", where people line up to dance with the bride or groom and give 'em a dollar or two... the Colonel, in his usual way, said to me when we danced, "I just hope you find a guy like me someday," with an evil smirk. Although he was quite a chicken when it came to the bride and groom feeding each other cake; they didn't get a bit of it ON each other! (Where's the fun in that?)

But all in all, a wonderful night. Congratulations once again, Colonel Sellers, and may your marriage be long and happy... and if you read this or any replies that it might generate, please don't kill me. smiley - smiley

Well, I'll be damned.

Tell the Colonel congratulations from me when you see him again, wouldja? FFFF is going fine, and we all remember him fondly.

smiley - cheers to Colonel and Mrs Sellers!

GTB has said it all. Good to know good things are happening for the Colonel. I still miss him here. He was one of the few people who took his hands out of the the bowl of water and actually left a hand-shaped hole behind.

Give him my kindest and fondest regards, and tell him to keep on raising a little hell wherever he is.

Well, it wasn't actually *in* a church, but it was a bit church-y. But, that's mainly because the *rest* of the family demanded such a ceremony, so it was kind of necessary. Heck, I think *I'm* one of the few who haven't reacted to his atheism with less than mild surprise. My mom (ironically, also his godmother), and my grandma for example... well, it took them a while to be comfortable with the idea, and "indignant shock" might be the way to describe their initial reactions. smiley - smiley

My family's a bit conservative in any generation previous to ours. But this generation is pretty open-minded. smiley - cool

Any other questions?

Hey, I'm a gal, I want to know what the bride wore, the colour of the flowers, whether the cake was fruit-cake or sponge, who caught the bouquet, what the bridesmaids wore, what the music was like, what songs you danced to, stuff like that.

But I'm English and I thought it would be intrusive to ask. smiley - winkeye

So long as the Colonel and his lady are doing good, is good enough for me.

This place sure did get ugly when I was gone. What'll be the next skin, Vomitorium?

Ok, so I'm having spaghetti dinner at an aunt's house, and my cousin tells me she mentioned my wedding here, so I stop in and read the responses.

And find my cousin slandering me.

"Well, it wasn't actually *in* a church, but it was a bit church-y."

Remind me to destroy you later, oh cousin mine. smiley - winkeye

Actually, the ceremony looked traditional and familiar, but I wrote the script. It was beautifully done, if I must say so myself. It made absolutely no references to any deities, either. The introduction established the authority under which we were marrying each other: us. It basically said that, even though we live in an often immoral world, where people get married and divorced for the wrong reasons, we committed to ourselves many years before that we would only do it once, and we were making that committment to each other on that day.

Unfortunately, one of the disasters that day was that the guy we'd arranged to perform the ceremony (we were already legally married, since we did the County Recorder's Office quickie so I could put her on my medical coverage, and so we could get absolutely anyone to perform for what was basically just a family show) didn't show up. My mom scrambled around for a last minute replacement. He seemed like he'd work out at first, but he became a stammering idiot in front of the crowd... not that I blame him, performing in public is a rare skill. My beautiful script was mangled beyond all recognition. He even buthered my name at my own wedding. So I can understand why Kudos would have misunderstood... hell, NOBODY could have understood.

I just hope she understands that I'm still going to have to destroy her.

Thanks for all the sweet sentiments, guys. You're all still remembered fondly, as well.

Every once in a blue moon, I even stop in and read to see what the FFFF is up to lately. I'm glad to see it's still a going concern. You did a great job with the page edit, GTB, and I had a good laugh when I first saw it. I expect you've discovered by now what I kept telling everyone, but nobody would believe... that I actually did nothing over there beyond some HTML coding. Besides, isn't it more fun when the inmates run the asylum? smiley - winkeye

Colonel Sellers, leaving the building... again.

Nice to see you back Colonel, albeit briefly. And the best of good luck to both of you in everything you do.
