It's weird. I have been away from here for nearly 2 weeks, for one reason and another. The strange thing is, when I cannot get on, I really miss this place. Then when I do get a chance to log on, I get completely demoralised by the nasty backlog to catch up on. So then I let a few forums slide, and only concentrate on one or two. Then I hit the time in my work cycle that I cannot get on for a whole week again, and so the whole scenario snowballs. Sometimes I feel that I don't have time to be here, yet I miss the chat, but so much passes me by. I sometimes feel left out. Silly, I know. (or is it paranoia creeping in again? smiley - winkeye)
It doesn't help that a certain person cannot get online at the moment. I miss that most of all. Oh well. Perhaps I should concentrate more on ACEing and perhaps a few guide entries. After all, how can I ask newbies to write and submit Entries when I haven't even done any myself? Time to think things over. smiley - sadface

Hello Babel... ~huggle~... me read your journal... hope you don't mind... ~hopeful grin~...

Me was a little sad that you felt left out... me does know how you feel... sometimes it seems that some folk spend their whole lives on here... and you get left behind in the conversation... Me must admit me tends to stay out of the bigger forums for that reason... me hasn't got an awful lot of time to spend online... and having to wade through the backlog of really popular forums... takes to much time... sad but true... ~sigh~

Me actually often visits researchers me has never been to before and says hello... sometimes you come across one that hasn't got into the swing of h2g2 yet... and its nice to get a conversation going...

ACEing is good to, but it seems there are so many researchers out doing that now... that it is hard to find a new researcher who hasn't been greeted... ~grin~

Me is sorry... ~Greebo gives Babel and extra huge huggle~... that you are missing an online friend... me misses people to sometimes... and it is miserable... how about adopting a new friend... to cheer you up when your real friend can't be around... me made this page for a little fun... have a visit...

http://www.h2g2.com/A431876

Please don't get sad... ~Greebo jumps onto Babel's shoulder~... me will stay with you if you like... me likes you lots...~cheeky grin~... even if you do seem to be reading my mind when it comes to h2iq answers at the moment...

Take care... ~wink~

*sympathy* there is of course the option of completely ignoring the backlog until a slow period in postings...

But we do miss you...

....and I think you should definitely be encouraged to write entries...

Thanks all for the support. I'm sorry that I haven't responded before now, but this is just the sort of thing I mean. Sometimes I can get a few hours on, others I am lucky to get 10 minutes. I haven't even picked up my emails in 10 days! I hope that things will calm down a bit soon, and allow me to get on with some writing (amongs other things smiley - smiley). Of course, I also need the time to do research, and write the things! So they may be a long time coming, but they will come. Meanwhile, I shall not lose heart, thanks to such great friends as you to keep me going. You know me, I am always ready to listen to other people and help them when I can, but sometimes I need to be listened to as well, hence the journal entry. Even writing it helps.
So there may be more of these as time progresses. Even if nobody reads them, at least I will have thought about them anew, having written them down. Perhaps I should just kick back for a bit and go with the flow. Lets see shall we smiley - smiley
Thanks again.
*hugs to all*
J

What, actually writing one, or have you joined a group and are learning lines for a performance? (I hope the former as that would be r-e-a-l-l-y interesting! smiley - smiley)

Greetings o dispirited one!

I think I know what it is. You've been around for ages and remember when it was all fields around here. You remember the days when you almost knew every researcher in the place. But with the membership now approaching the size of the population of an inner London borough, you can't stay on top of everything that's going on without being on-line all day, which some people obviously are.

Well, think of it like living in a big city. A cinema's showing a Woody Allen film you've never managed to see for one night only - the same night as Travis are playing and the Berlin Philharmonic are doing Beethoven's Ninth and all your university mates are having a reunion and a new play by rising young star Demon Drawer is receiving its premiere to which you are invited as well as the party afterwards.

You can't do it all!

As for the bigger forums, I think you can only get something from them if you spend your life on here. It's a bit like clubbing versus a quiet pint with a few old friends. Sometimes you can't be bothered clubbing if it has to mean staying up all night every night getting wrecked. But if others want to do it - fine! But don't feel left out because you can't keep up with them. I personally prefer just to keep a few forums ticking over with people I enjoy talking to, but that's how /I/ choose to use h2g2.

Here, have another pint of Reassurance 80/- smiley - smiley

Thanks SPINY smiley - smiley
I can picture your scenario perfectly in my head, and fully understand what you are saying. I have taken that attitude slightly over the last couple of weeks, and have decided to just reply if I have something to say. I know quite a few people who just hop on and hop off the h2g2 Bullet train, as and when they like, and they seem fine about it, therefore, so should I. I shall just have to get used to being online at certain times, and know people will understand, if I am not online for one or two weeks at a time. The rest will be pretty intense however smiley - smiley. Saying that, a couple of the more prolific forums I participate in have died sightly this week, and so it won't be the chore to chase up the backlog, as it normally is.
Thank you for your support, and remind me, I owe you a pint sometime smiley - smiley
