More unhindered progress through my life
NexusSeven Started conversation Jul 18, 2005
And so it comes to pass that I miss another meet, another year goes by and I grow a little older.
Apologies to all of my regular and passing acquaintance; I really am most remiss in keeping up with people.
Anyway, my currect status is alive, living in North London in the rather striking shadow of Alexandra Palace and working nights for a press clippings agency.
My list of achievements since my last journal entry is pitifully small, but then again, I regard continuing existence in a modicum of comfort to be a success.
How's everyone else doing? Those that may occasionally peruse my journal, that is.
See y'all soon...

Well, 'all' is a relative term, but myself and SLG are very happy, which is the main thing eh?
How are things treating you? Read any good comics lately (and god knows, I'm struggling to)?

Yeah, a few decent ones - Scott Pilgrim is hilarious (available from Oni Press, I think), as is Fancy Froglin's Sexy Forest and Superf*ckers (both from James Kochalka). There has been a second volume of Age of Bronze, which pleased me greatly, and if you want to see some truly sublime art, check out Ross Campbell's work in Wet Moon.
I was also reading Hellsing, but kind of lost interest after the third volume.

I don't know anybody who treads Hellsing - as an anime first title it's a bit like Tenchi in manga format, simply superflous. But hey.
I seem to be having a bit of a retro phase - buying lots of old Jonah Hex, as well as the really nice reprint of Adam Strange form the DC Archives set. Other than that, I'm still enjoying Blade of the Immortal, and BPRD. I like Adam Warren's Livewires and Mnemovore, but they are the only titles I buy from the big two now (although I am slowly working my way through the Bendis/Maleev Daredevil graphics).
Other than that I'm reading lots of Zombies. The Walking Dead is rather fun, and SLG's new Dead Eyes Open is looking promising.

I've borrowed the Hellsing anime from a friend, which is in parts excellent, but I was under the impression that the manga came first. Certainly, it deviates enormously from the anime after the first few volumes...

I am now Illuminated and Enlightened, thankyou.
Have you read any of Grant Morrison's Seven Soldiers thing? The quality has been variable, but the good bits are very, very good.

I've flicked through a couple down at Southend. I quite liked the look of the new Zatanna one - a character who deserves a much better shake of the stick than she is genrally given (fnat fnar), but I have a problem with Grant Morrison inasmuch that I really don't care for his writing.
I like the look of WE3 as well, but the same thing applies.
Now, if only DC would do an Archive reprint of all the various Zatanna stuff they have laying about...
(I think the point about the anime/manga thing, btw is that the Japanese reason that if you own the anime why would you want a direct copy in manga form?) On a bitt of a tangent, I have seen a press release which indicates that everyone's favourite diminutive destructive dinosaur, Gon, is to shortly star in his own feature length movie by the guy who did 'Final Fantasy'.

WE3 is *superb*, and I think you'd probably enjoy SEAGUY as well, which is nicely mental.

I very nearly bought a copy of We3 the other day but decided to buy Walking Dead volume 2 instead...
Maybe after payday.

It's probably the best thing Morrison's done since the Invisibles, and although that was such a mixed bag of occasionally-comprehensible randomness, this is not a thing I'd say lightly.

That, to me, is a bit like a Pink Floyd fan saying 'It's the best thing they've done since Animals'.
IE, it's the best thing they've done since the last pile of self indulgent cobblers that I did't like...

Well, yes, I see your point. In that case, it's the best thing he's done since... er... Animal Man?
Seriously, though, other comics readers I know who have a similarly dim view of GM's more masturbatory works think that WE3 is, to coin a phrase, Hot Cock.

Think you've been watching a bit to much Little Britain, there mate...
I take the point though. I shall investigate. I must say the cat looks most funny and might even amuse SLG, who is a big cat fan...
