It's quite sad that so many states are being ers about sexual behavior. Let's focus on the harmful, forced and truly unhealthy stuff... Do the same states that ban gay couple sex also ban molestation and rape!??
Doubtful.
So... consentual sex between adults is offensive enough to be banned... is this what we are wasting our time on education and economic development for!??

Um, actually, molestation and rape are illegal in *all* the states of the US.
And those laws are far more actively enforced than the laws regarding "sodomy" ever were.
And the sodomy laws were not simply about same sex relationships in many of the states, they also made illegal 'naughty' things between heterosexual couples, even if they were married.

Thanks for the explanation. Is banning something different from making it illegal!?? I guess so...
The Greeks recognised and celebrated naughtiness between couples!!! Yanks have such Puritan roots...

Even the BBC World news dragged up a sad bunch of fundamental Christians bemoaning the end of civilisation as we know it

GOOD!!! If civilization means making people miserable just because they don't fit the Anglo-Christian "norm" then I celebrate the end of civilization!!!!!

When the news reports say that sodomy or homosexual sex was "banned" in Texas or other states in the U.S., what they actually mean was that there was were laws in those states which made sodomy or homosexual sex technically criminal acts, similar to molestation.
It does not mean that they actually went door to door looking for homosexuals and throwing them out of the state or into jail. It does not mean that they "got rid" of all sodomy and homosexuality in the state. It _only_ means that there was a law against it.
Again, a nasty, evil law. But yes, there were far stronger laws against molestation and rape, and as I said, those laws were actually enforced far more rigorously.
So you can't accurately claim that sodomy or homosexual sex was "banned" in Texas and yet that molestation and rape were not. If what happened with sodomy/same sex relationships in Texas meets your definition of "banning", then so does molestation and rape, automatically.

I agree Dragonfly! It's about time the US caught up.
It is not the end of civilization. It may help end the US standing on the soapbox hollering about what is *civil* behavior for all. I do not even see why it is considered conservative? It should be considered a radical right wing opinion. This could open the National door to civil marriages for homosexuals being acknowledged.
There is an article about Canada being a troublesome neighbor to the US. They have "joined the Europeans right in our own backyard"
By following Europe and decriminalizing or lowering the penalty for pot and leaving homosexuals alone in their co-consenting homes they have snubbed the US essentially. US companies are hurting, losing millions to seniors that have to get prescriptions from Canada who buys in bulk and saves their citizens money. What a simple ,compassionate ideas our lovely neighbor Canada has
