This is a Journal entry by Aurora

I keep *meaning* to join in with Peer Review, but I don't.
I have a measly two edited entries. One was a collaborative entry, and the other I'm too ashamed to even read.
The four threads at the top of my conversations list are all word games.
I haven't created a proper guide entry in almost three years.
Eight out of the eleven names on my Friends list are people I know in real life and either joined h2g2 and never came back, or only come back to read my journal and never talk to anyone else.
I don't join in with debates here any more in case the big kids laugh at me.
Every time I read <./>ThePost</.> I want to post something to say how much I enjoy it (*waves to tonsil revenge and Wowbagger*) and I can't. What if they think I'm mocking them, or I didn't get the joke, or I'm seeing a joke when they were being serious, or, or, or...
How on earth am I supposed to leave home and go to Uni in October when I'm too terrified to do anything in a *virtual* community? I'm not worried about exam results. I'm not worried that the course will be far too difficult. But I'm terrified by the people. One sarcastic comment in the wrong place and I'll be toast. I won't even have an interesting name to hide behind.
~~A~~
Right. I'm off to nurse my many midgie bites.

Nah, u'll be okay - u'd be surprised at the number of sarcastic comments u can get away with as long as you grin disarmingly afterwards, as if to say u didn't really mean it ^_-
Of course, my problem will always be not being motivated enough to speak to people, virtual or real.

Like this?
You'll be fine. Just think of it this way - would you rather speak to people or have Rick give them a speech on penguins first?

Ah, the penguins!!
I might end up known as the insane penguin guy's girlfriend! >_<
::starts to rifle through her hypnotism books for a way to make Rik forget his insanity::

**Straight face** I'm sure if you work hard enough you'll be recognised as an insane person in your own right.

There's no requirement to do anything on H2G2 - be yourself - amuse yourself - I only have 2 edited entries - and one of those is on Teletubby gambling
And trust me - there are a lot of weirder people than you at uni -
- Results tomorrow !

Yeah, I read that entry a while ago.
I spent the weekend with a student friend in Dundee, coming back via the Glasgow station where all the Goths hang out. I don't feel so weird any more.

uni will be super fantastic, trust me. everyone is nervous when they go, but students as a breed are sarcastic. as long as you do good sarcasm, theyll like you. make sure you go out wiht the others in freshers week. dont drink if you dont want to, but be there. its important to make an impression from the off. first impressions count a lot. itll be one long party, and youll meet some really cool people. just remember: join in and youll be fine!

Any wit I may have accidentally picked up over the years probably originated on Hootoo. Lurking has its uses.
I've already got an invitation to a fresher's party. Fancy dress - come dressed as something beginning with G. Granny Weatherwax? Greek Goddess? Gimli? Don't know if I can pull off the beard.
Thanks for that - I'm all excited again!

remember: go to everything you can. it helps if you get a bit drunk, but thats not critical. just have a good time.
