I am applying for jobs lots of them some in places I dont think I will get but have to apply for becuse the job is to good not to (yes I could do the job but 20 year olds arnt taken seriously enough) and people dont l;et you know whats going on its anying I dont know whether to bug them or not I have a training job in the place I am working in, a graduets scheem with the BBC among the few I am really waighting for I just wish they would let me know so I could stop waighting even no would be prefrable to not knowing

unfortunately most employers aren't bothered with candidates they don't intend to pursue, an unfriendly and frustrating practice, altho i understand to an extent why it happens. given the number of applications an employer takes in for the much smaller number of positions they have to fill, it's usually a matter of not having the time to follow up on applicatoins they won't use. when i was in management i never called back applicants for any reason other than to schedule interviews, but if an applicant called me back i would let them know the status of their application, even if we didn't intend to hire them.

I applied for the BBC graduate technology scheme last year and the year before. Competition is fierce as they only take about 200 a year or something, and if you're unsuccessful expect about a two month wait before hearing anything (the public sector and civil service don't believe in shaping themselves).

Me, I've been out of uni now for 18 months, and unemployed for four. I just keep firing the applications and C.Vs off in the hope that someone will pay attention.

I'm going to have to start looking for a job soon. The idea terrifies me- I don't know what sort to look for, where to look for one etc etc

Newspaper and everything, Cat. That's my advice to you. I have worked so far in jobs I never thought I'd do- waitress, customer service, security guard... and it's not like they the height of my aspirations, they were just jobs.
Just bear in mind that any job's worthy, and all jobs give you the most important, invaluble thing- experience. So that when you want to get the hell out of your job, you actually can find another slightly more easily.
And don't be terrified.

Just fine! Busy at work, which is a good thing. They just had layoffs! I'm still here, though!

Nothing much new going on. It's been very cold and snowy this winter, and I'm looking forward to Spring already!
