Mansfield Park...

Post 1

Right then, having spent since October attempting to study/read/get past chapter 8 of Mansfield Park without much success, I have now realised that there is less than a fortnight to my exam in which I will be expected to write a long essay on said book.

Therefore, in an attempt to persuade me to finish this loosely titled 'classic' I have decided to take drastic action. Thus I have stuck the remaining number of chapters next to my user name so that whenever procrastination takes hold and I'm sat here typing (I'm currently on a revision break!!!) I'll feel compelled into reading some more of it... at least that's the theory smiley - smiley

Thanks! I suspect I may need it, but I've read up to chapter 16 today which is the same amount that I've read since we started the course so hopefully I may get it finished... just in time to start on Hardy's 'Return Of the Native' smiley - winkeye

Tink, tell me that you haven't still got 18 chapters to read. You must have done some work today, surely.

And what about Return of the Native. You have read it before, haven't you.

Yes, I'd not read as much as I liked today but I'm down to 7 chapters and I should get those down tonight smiley - smiley But in my defence I've finished the Cantabury Tales now smiley - smiley

And yes, panic not I have read Return of the Native, albeit a couple of months ago but I actually enjoyed that so I will easily read it before the exam... I'm much more worried about The Changling actually as I'm just baffled by the whole concept of that!

*not thinking about the sociology revision she still has to do*

Aah!

Yes but see the Changeling only counts for 10% or something so as long as I do well on the others it'll be alright smiley - smiley

*ignores the sociology as the thought is too worrying*

Yes they're A-Levels but I have to admit I have absolutely no idea how I'm getting my results, I think I was supposed to send them an envelope or something, if they don't arrive I'll phone up and find out smiley - smiley

I thought they were coming out on the 16th - which is why I thought you were getting them through the post, since those come on the 17th... good luck, anyway. I keep having strange nightmares about history exams and Henry VII's policy in Ireland, but never mind. smiley - erm

Nasty books, by the way - we had 'Othello', 'The Taming of the Shrew', 'Dubliners' and Keats - damn it, I hate narrative poems... smiley - yuk

Oooh they're the ones I did the year before for the language course... I loved Dubliners but then I'm a fan of Irish literature and Joyce in particular so that'd explain it..not justify but explain at least smiley - winkeye

Do I get them on the 17th then? Of August? Ooh thats quite soon smiley - smiley

Did you do both Language and Lit. then? What else did you do, apart from Sociology? smiley - smiley

Well last year I did Psychology, Media Studies, General Studies and some random combined Language and Literature course which Cambridge et al were not appreciating so then this year I did pure Literature and Sociology just to pass the time smiley - winkeye

Impressive. smiley - ok I quite fancy doing some extra A-levels 'just to pass the time'... but they aren't A-levels anymore. smiley - sadface

When is the 16th of August? Is that next week..hmmm smiley - erm

I think the main point was that as I was doing English Lit at uni, they were worried I'd forget how to write essays...unfortunately they neglected to think that I'd not do that much work anyway so I only ever wrote about 5 essays smiley - winkeye
