Wrong Way Corrigan lives on!
Oh, brother...I think I caught the Stephen King bug. One horror story completed, and I'm thinking about starting another...
Avaunt! Avaunt, ye foul dark spirit!

Christiane,
This is maple tree territory...the maples are the ones turning prematurely red...they should be waiting another month...my cousin attributes the precocious colors to either drought or disease...
This is a unique area of 21 long deep parallel valleys that run north and south between long high hills...six sparkling "finger lakes" fill six of the valleys where glaciers pushed up moraines to create natural dams...the ground is dotted with glacial eccentrics...
Directly below there is 1.5 miles of sedimentary rock that was a seabed where New York state is now located...
In 1779 an expedition decimated the six tribes of the Iroquois Nation the area began to be settled...by 1835 canals linked Cayuga, Seneca and Keyuga lakes with the Eire Canal and the area began to prosper.
I stopped at a small roadside graveyard today near Keyuga Lake...the earliest stone I could find had an 1810 dates of death...

Mrs. Phred calls me "wrong-way" for reasons known only to her.

I dumped two ideas into hte computer but they're more just 'oh gross' than actually horrifying. Pass the inspiration, please. (I'll take fries with that.)

Dear Phred,
Thanks for your extra information on the Laks area.
My Goodness. It is horrifying when one realises how many indigenous people were massacred.
I wonder who does the map reading when you are driving. You always seem to get to where you are aiming so may I delicately suggest that the reason for the "wrong-way" appelation is possibly plain as a pikestaff!
I am off to Margate today to take a visiting Malawian Monseigneur to visit a Franciscan sister from Zambia who was unwittingly run over las month by a hit and run driver. She has one leg broken, the other badly injured. How she was not killed is a miracle. So it is going to be another long day - without a phone and without receivng any emails. An extrqordinary state of affairs.
Sincerely,
Christiane
