Miss Jeni Posted Jun 12, 2000
Wow...
If you go to the Chicago homepage (call me sad!)
then it tells you all about the history of Chicago
and everything and it says that Chicago is something
like the most 20th windy place in the whole of the US.
I think that's one of the main reasons why I
wouldn't mind living there, I mean they get loads
of snow in the winter and loads of sunshine in
the summer, I think that's one of the most appealing
things about it!
Yeah, k maybe not exactly 2 weeks in every state
but just as long as I want, you know. I mean
I might only need a few days in somewhere like Nebraska
but perhaps I could spend a month in somewhere like
California. Has anyone ever been to North Dakota,
I think I'd like to visit there.
So anyway,Gargleblaster, tell me more about your other
visits to the US!! Have you ever been to Canada?
I'd like to visit the more rural areas I think,
the further south the better!
Anyway - I'd had better go and watch the football now
ENGLAND WILL WIN - and I'm gonna regret saying
that tomorrow after they've lost!!

Beware, Trini... I think you may have noticed that I can run off for forever with only a mild amount of encouragement.
I agree with your "the further south, the better" thing. I hate the cold, and I have an absolutely irrational aversion to snow. I grew up (and have currently returned to) the Inland Empire in Southern California. It's a pretty nice climate, but I do live at the foot of a range of mountains that get quite a lot of snow. As a kid, we would make trips up to the mountains to play in the snow. Everything was just fine for me for a while, and then the snow would soak through my mittens (more often than not we just wore socks over our hands... who needs to own a pair of proper winter gloves when you live in a desert?), and the breeze would steal every shred of heat from them, until they were so cold they hurt. At that point, I would lock myself up in the car and be miserable for a couple of hours, while the rest of my family enjoyed the weather.
Anyway, because of that, I've never been to Canada. Furthest north I've been is Wisconsin, and that was a mistake... I took a wrong turn while driving to visit a girlfriend who lived right on the Illinois/Wisconsin border. I would like to visit Vancouver sometime, as I hear good things about that city, but I'll make sure to do it in the summer.
20th most windy place? Well, that may be so, but I can honestly tell you that Southern California outranks it. The Santa Anas (translation: Devil's Wind) blow through for large portions of the autumn and winter months. They call it the devil's wind because it is generated from the deserts of Mexico, and is still quite warm when it whips through the mountain passes around here. Hawaii probably outranks it, too... 20 mph tradewinds are nearly constant throughout the year. Keeps things nice and cool.
Chicago and the rest of the Midwest do get lots of sunshine during the summer months, but it isn't of the pleasant variety. 85F temperatures are downright pleasant in Hawaii and California, because there are ocean breezes in Hawaii, and humidity is very low in California. In the Midwest, the air turns stagnant in the summer, and the humidity is in the 80's as well. This means that you always feel a bit slimy, and no amount of sweating or swimming will bring you any relief. When the humidity is 80%, nothing will evaporate from your body, and this is how sweat and water cool you off. All those tongue-in-cheek "It's a *dry* heat" comments made about the American Southwest have a grain of real truth to them. When the temperature gets to 90 degrees in Chicago, the city issues health warnings and outdoor, heavy labor type things are put on hold. When the temperature gets to 90 in Phoenix, they drink a bit more water and go about their business.

Cool...
Maybe that's why I'd prefer to live in central or Eastern America rather than Southern or Western!
I think all of the places around Lake Michigan, Lake Erie, Lake Huron, Lake Ontario and Lake Superior look quite nice, has anyone ever been to Michigan?!? That looks nice.
For a link to the Chicago homepage, there's one on my page and you might think I'm (really) sad but it's cool and all of the places look really nice.
And also - with Chicago, what more could you ask for... Jerry Springer is filmed there!
And also Qu, yes I do like the new face and I'm gonna keep on using it compulsively in a desperate hope to annoy you.
Remember this?!? 8I
Oh and guess what else - We lost that match against Portugal, and now we *have* to win against Germany and Rumania to be able to get thru. *Sob* like that's ever gonna happen, we nearly lost against Scotland dammit.

I know just what you mean Gargleblaster. I was raised in San Francisco area and now I'm in Texas, and I'm always slimy and hot especially right now. You were exactly right on that point...

Please fill in an ignorant American on what exactly Euro 2000 is. I think it has to do with the Euro money, but I really don't know. Thanks!

Big football (or soccer as I guess you'd call it in the US) tournament.
It's either an alternative too or a cause of the next European war.

Miss Jeni Posted Jun 14, 2000
I'll explain in detail about Euro 2000...
Euro 2000 is a huge soccer tournament (as IanG said)
that happens every 4 years, I guess it's a bit like
the World cup but with fewer and only european countries.
This year we only *just* qualified to get into it.
I think we got in thru the play-offs!
Anyway at the beginning of the competition,
All of the teams are placed into groups,
normally the team who thru the play off is the
weakest team. So in our group there is: Portugal,
Germany and Rumania. As you may or may not be
aware, All of the other teams are *very* good at
soccer!
We have already lost 1 game to Portugal and
now apparently we will have to win both of
the other 2 games (against Germany and rumania)
to be able to get thru to the next round.
Because both of the other teams are like
some of the best teams in the world - we
stand no chance and once again we're going to
lose.
In other words I agree with Qu.

Don't feel bad, Trinity! Our US team can't even get in!
If they did, it would assure your team of at least one win!!!
Sad part is.....I wish our guys were better! I enjoy the game.
My son played "soccer" thru all the other kids' baseball years....so I have an appreciation for football!

Yeah - football's a good game to play and to
watch (although it's more fun to play!) it's a
shame that we're crap at it.
Although we might win, does anyone know if Rumania
are any good?
Whatever my name is

Don't worry schizo-girl, apparently we can get through if we WIN and DRAW at worst. Anything less and we're out. So if out team bucks up its ideas then there's a chance.
When are the Olympics this year?
Do you live in the USA???
Miss Jeni Posted Jun 15, 2000
Yeah well, olympics are.... I have no idea.
I'm not a great fan. Some of it's alright,
although the commentary is sooooo boring.
I'm schizo cuz I change my name a lot?
I just want to find the right one
Which I'm trying to do at the moment!!

Well I think the Olympics are great-- especially the gymnastics and ice skating. I don't know when they are though, but they are in Australia...
