I plan on sleeping in for the remainder of the week, then I shall endeavor to find some means of gainful employment that will both pay above minimum wage, and will be within a reasonable driving distance so that high gas prices won't eat up every check.

Soon I intend to purchase either a GameCube or XBox game system. GameCube just has so many fascinating games for it (many Sonic games, Super Smash Bros. Melee, Zelda games, the Mario franchise, etc.), and the XBox owns Rareware (creaters of games like Perfect Dark and Banjo-Kazooie).

Then I intend to waste my summer away, occasionally adding a room or item or something to the CLI Text Adventure game whenever the mood strikes me (I've currently got three rooms and one really easy puzzle! Woo-Hoo!).

Or, maybe I'll do something else. Haven't decided yet.

Any prospects for that job-type endeavour? And how long would it take to earn enough to buy the game system? Do you play on someone else's now?

And keep up the pace on that CLI game - I'm looking forward to it. smiley - biggrin

I don't often play Game Cube. I have a friend who owns one that I'll play just often enough so that I don't get rusty in Super Smash Bros. Melee, but for the most part I'm limitted to the Sega Dreamcast and Nintendo 64 for home systems. I also own a Sega Genesis, but haven't played it in a while (which is a shame, really, considering how great a game Earthworm Jim is).

As for the job, nothing yet. I have noticed that I'm able to wake up earlier than a lot of people, so I might look into a business that needs people to open up at like 5 AM. I know McDonald's is hiring, but I really, really don't want to work there. Feel better not knowing just what goes into making their stuff. I've still got a generally positive image of their salads, and I want to keep it that way.

And as for the CLI game,....I'll try, but don't keep your hopes up. I aim really high so that when I land I'm somewhere respectable.smiley - winkeye

Is there some sort of summer employment office there, where jobs are posted? When I was between Grade 13 and first year university, I used the government's Student Employment Office (which I'm sure is called something different now) to find jobs. That first summer, I did many things: I picked peas (terrible job - bending over all day, hardly making any money even when picking like a demon. Quit after one day); I worked in a lumber yard for a tyrant (lasted 2 weeks before I couldn't stand the guy's yelling any more); I made coathangers (actually a very guelling job, trying to keep up with the machines - I lasted 2 weeks before giving it up, exhausted); and finally, I got a job in a warehouse, filling orders, which was a great job. The next summer, the warehouse had closed, but the parent company hired me and I worked on an assembly line for greeting cards. Not a bad job, actually. In summers after that, I had had enough engineering schooling that I could get engineering jobs from recruiters that came on campus.

But that first summer, I just went to the Student Employment Office every morning and checked the postings and eventually got a good job. Is there anything like that there?

Not nearby. There are some definite job postings near the campus, but I don't plan on spending much time around the campus this summer.
