No. Really.And I come from Planet Bob!
I aml from the far off land of Cybernations - an online role playing game. In this game I am part of a Hitchhikers-based alliance called the Mostly Harmless Alliance. In the MHA, we're all about spreading the hoopy frood vibe and inviting others to join in as we hitchhiker across Planet Bob (the Cybernations nickname for Earth), attempting to find the question to the meaning of life at some very happening parties.And what am I doing here?
I come to contribute to the great Guide with all that I know (should be about 2.4 entries worth at least!) and also to spread the word about Mostly Harmless in the small hope that some of the Researchers here will come visit Planet Bob and get involved in the game - when they're not writing, of course!And whom am I really>
In reality (an awful little place I tend to visit less than I do my relatives), I am a 22 year old Australian who enjoys humour and studies Media relatively successfully in University.And what do I know about Hitchhikers?
With my very English parents, I can remember from an early watching the BBC series of the very English Hitchhikers, but it wasn't until I caught the series on repeats on UKTV that I began to really appreciate the humor and wit of Douglas Adams. I can still remember laughing hard at the Babel Fish entry and how Man got killed on a Zebra Crossing (a foolish thing to do if one has the opportunity to be retrospective. Man, unfortunately, did not) and desperately wanting to know if there was life after the series ended.
So I got the omnibus of books - the complete triology of four Hitchhikers. People looked at me oddly on the train as I giggled quietly over Arthur and Ford's misadventures through the Galaxy. But once the book was done, what then?!? Then came the Radio Scripts, and the fifth book Mostly Harmless, which I only discovered existed much later in my fandom, and of course purchasing the original BBC series on that marvelous invention of DVD. The movie was silly and fun and sits proudly in my DVD shelf and I'm soaking up as much Adams-mania like a 6 year old addicted to Pokemon.
When I started playing Cybernations, I was overwhelmed by the total mixture and overwhelming-ness of Alliances that Planet Bob had, but it was a small little advertisement from Mostly Harmless that caught my eye. A Hitchhiker's based Alliance? No way! But it was and I joined faster than my little mouse could handle. I've been there for over a year now and look to find many ways that I can bring more Hitchhikers into the alliance. I do hope people will come join me in this project!
